Yep, a real nice lens. I shot some very nice night-city photos with this lens, and wish I could put my hands on them. The only problem I have had with it is accurate focussing during low-light conditions--lot of hunting and seeking.

Fantastic! I love Mt Killy, climbed halfway up it one time. Love staying at Ma Gibbs Farm and going on Ng Crater game tour in beat up old Land Rovers. Probably won't go back, but look forward to your photos!

You are the MAN to get this photo. It is so realistic, down to the board hanging off the window of the barn. All the details of the photo are harmonious and work, everything balanced and in exactly the right position -- and then BOOM that perfect roping scene front and center in the photo, just like a little mini-explosion to catch the eye--and those deadpan "we do this every day" expressions of the two riders. I don't smoke, but one of these guys must be the Marlborough man. This photo deserves awards! If you don't make copies for sale, I am tempted to steal a copy and hang it way on the inside of my home so no one will know I violated your copyright! Sorry to go on and on about one photo, but this one is just too much . . . reminds me of growing up on a small family farm and ranch in central Texas. If I ever make a photo this good, I will stop shooting, give away all my gear, and just point to it if anyone asks me about my photography!

Here's what's blossoming at our place on Easter Day.
KIT: Pentax K-1 with Tamron 17-50mm f 2.8.
NOTE: Sorry the first photo is posted sideways. Pentax Forum does this to me from time to time, and I have no idea how to correct it.

Being primarily a prime shooter fully vested in the three amigos and some FA* glass, I always struggle with which lens to take on any given photographic outing. I do like the Tammy 17-50 a lot for daytime work, but have focussing problems during evening parties and gatherings when it would otherwise be a great choice. i should use it more than I do. I have seen some excellent work by folks using the 17-50 almost exclusively, mainly for landscape.

Great results from the 17-50. I love the sharpess and simplicity of the first one.

Just looks back focussed to me. The building in the back is in focus, and the trees to the left in the foreground are out of focus, just a normal condition.

I have had the Tamron 17-50 for several years, but have generally used it for evening parties and gatherings where it sometimes has trouble with auto focussing. However, I am impressed with lots of work I have seen posted with it recently, so am resolved to give it better try.

I will try to dig some out in the next few days. I have achieved less in this area than I would like to achieve, however.

I have chosen Tammy 17-50/2.8 for my intensive use lens this November. I have had this lens for over a year, and generally regarded it as just a good utilitarian low-light lens for parties and other evening events. Using it that way, I did not concern myself much about IQ. It was enough that you were able to capture the image, record the event, without excessive use of flash. Other than a little low-light focussing difficulty, the lens has performed quite well. Generally, I just slam the camera into Av or Auto mode and snap away. On occasion, however, I began to realize that some of the images captured were a little better than one would expect for plain snapshots. That is what led me to select this lens for more intensive use. I am now finding the lens capable of providing excellent images on regular occasions, sometimes even producing the sort of 3-D effect that I see regularly from the 77 limited.
I am wondering what strategy to follow to produce the 3D effect. I am finding that you must use a large enough aperture/depth of field to capture more than just the foreground or else you turn the background into bokeh and lose the 3-E effect.
It would be interesting to hear what others think about how to facilitate the 3-D effect.

Series of photos taken on a walk around Lake Hinckley in Cleveland Metroparks on a chilly, wintry, day with occasional snow flakes in the air. K-20, Tamron 17-50mm f 2.8, all handheld, mostly all manual, but using autofocus--we are lazy that way! Critical coments invited.
