Confounding the problem is the fact that the US$ has remained strong vis-a-vis other foreign currencies. This has baffled everyone, and it remains to be seen how the Fed will react if this situation persists. Trade is at almost standstill and has been reduced to bare essentials, ever since US$ has remained this strong. In our case, we have lost almost 20% of our value against the dollar and it's not looking good. And the "oilmageddon" is making the problem more complex.
Specific to us Pentaxians, our country produces our beloved Pentax cameras, and worse, Pentax' market share here is virtually nil, so every produce has to go elsewhere. The production (labor) cost is low, but everything else in the manufacturing chain has been suffering. The chain must continue moving, but with a soft demand everywhere, Ricoh has to accept a lower contribution margin for every unit sold. :(
