How to capture the drought

I would think the cracked earth with heat waves would be a good shot. Wide angle to get it all in. Shots of cattle being loaded, with plumes of dust... B&W with alot of black tones and brought back with fill light to punch up the contrasts.

Close up of a cowboy's face, scrunched up caked with dust.... again, B&W....

Those would be mine. But I also think that if you walked around a bit, you will come to something that says, "Holy crap, it's hot.". If you think too hard about getting the shot, you will lose it. Be prepared and just feel it.
