The Future Q -- what's your take?

There's a trade off here that has nothing to do with relative IQ of the sensor.

I have favorite images from the Q7 that exist ONLY because the the Q-system is convenient enough to be "be there" (whether f/8 or not) when larger format cameras would have been left behind.

For me, it's not about how perfectly I can capture an image, it's the appeal of the images that I CAN capture -- simply because I have a suitable body and selection of lenses in hand when I wouldn't have a larger system. Just as I have images from the '60's taken with an Olympus 1/2 frame Pen-F system when I couldn't possibly have carried an equivalent Spotmatic 'system'.

Yes, but . . . recall my statement about "tight places" and "otherwise inaccessible locations"? You have to be able to position those 'normal' IR triggers where the camera sensors can see 'em. And there's also note in the manual (which seems fairly accurate in practice) that the rear sensor is rated for only about 5 cm which is isn't too helpful. Without a mechanical or electric remote capability a fiber optic extension cable is one of the few practicable options.

And while we're re-designing it . . . a ~ 3x3x?" square-ish form-factor could be handy in tight places too.

The Q-system has many potential uses for technical photography. Its small size, RAW file plus video options and interchangeable lenses suggest uses in many tight spots. A major frustration is the lack of a remote cable release feature and a remote live-view/tethering option allowing it to be placed in otherwise inaccessible locations.

I'm experimenting with both a mechanical cable and a fiber-optic extension cable to allow use of IR remote switches but a conventional wired remote cable port would be a desired solution -- and possibly an easy fix.

A plug-in, high-resolution 3" LCD screen with an accessory remote cable would be nice too.

Perhaps not, but you'd best present your argument for changes with the POV of the majority of the consumers in mind. No doubt there's design engineers considering many uses, but you still have to convince the money comptrollers to commit to changes. They don't seem inclined to listen to the very small percentage of users that frequent this web site.

There are two different types of "wants" here. Those for the popular consumer market and those desired by many of us here on PF that have adaptive, pro-sumer or technical uses for this IL system.

Its compact size and adaptable lens choices makes it attractive as a highly portable technical system and for use in close quarters. The crop factor makes it a popular choice for relatively extreme telephoto uses with economical lenses.

Both uses call for an upgraded LCD screen capable of critical focusing (compared to merely composing) which the present 420K screen does not provide. A tilt-screen would be helpful, but not for focusing without the higher pixel count of the present DSLR 3" screens.

Other technical accommodations are to provide for a wired, electronic remote shutter and tethering, whether by wireless or cable. The IR remote is somewhat problematic for many applications.

At some point there would be an opportunity to offer a universal remote monitor provided a dedicated, universal data/video out port (such as USB or Bluetooth) becomes a common feature of most if not all bodies. Sync'ed to an iPad or Android tablet perhaps?

None of these is critical for success in the apparent popular market for the Q so incentive to provide for a limited technical market is slim to none.
