Susan, I can assure you that this is - indeed - Texas. We live in the coastal plain - more-or-less like LA without the swamps: live oaks with lots of moss, bayous, fishing and offshore oil industries and barrier islands galore. Not the Texas you see in cowboy movies (that's a bit west of here).

Well, actually a muddy creek, specifically Varner Creek which runs through part of Brazoria County, including the Varner-Hogg historical site from which these pictures were taken.
