Javier - my tiny K04 looks like a whistle blower compare to your AR! Great looking engines, craftsmanship looks impeccable! Nice to see the knowledge and passion you passing on to your son from such young age!

You know your stuff! Yes, the seller promised it is cut from K1000 screen, not Minolta, but as you said, either one should work fine.

Ideally, that is the one I would like to have, but having absolutely no experience with split focusing screen, I figured I'd like to try the $22 one first, just to get a good feel for it. If I get addicted to MF lenses (which has been somewhat a trend for me over the past few months), I may do that. Or who knows, that K1000 re-grind may be just fine...

I maybe wrong, but I think most of those close-up diopters in lower price range are about the same. While I have no experience with Digital Concept, I have $13 set from Hoya, and $10 from Fotodiox, and both are about the same quality - I like them and us them sometimes Easiest way to get close to the subject with out dismounting the lens.

D

Thanks Javier!

Screen - well, not much I can tell you yet, except I received confirmation that it was shipped from china few days ago...

While my vision is not bad, still, focusing these f1.4 and f1.2 lenses wide open can be a little challenging for me. So I wanted to give a split focusing screen a try. But considering I've never used before, I did not want to spend in excess of $150 for KatzEye piece. So after reading few threads here, and some members using inexpensive Chinese version with success (as long it is proper thickness), I ordered one.

Since K10D pretty much has become my permanent manual focus body (macro photos with DFA 100mm and old manual lenses), I figured I can indeed benefit from that split screen. Once I receive it and install into the body, I'll be happy to share results from this particular seller and the screen.

Few more - weeds varieties from the back yard with +4 (still wide open), still in the B&W mood for now:

jsherman999 - nice play with cascading lights onto the subjects!

Hin - beautiful aquarium photos!

thePiRaTE!! - thanks for showing the differences between the lenses, interesting indeed!

This time I'm opting for B&W. I bet this lens works beautifully on quality B&W film! Some day I'll try  For now, this lens is permanently mounted to K10D, though I did order split screen (before I sink $150 for katzeye, cheap one for now, just to get a feel for it), hoping to get it soon...

Still wide open (fist shot in 2009):

Followed Hin's findings, mounted +4 diopter from fotodiox for these two:

Happy New Year to all!

We went for a walk in downtown last night (after dropping off some presents), somewhat disappointing in terms of holiday decor, least I've seen in years.

Stumbled on a window display of an old gift/antique "shoppe", they had a neat display with the floor cut-away view, and mice in just about every imaginable pose. Had K10D with Cosina mounted:

Just thought is was cute little scenes :)

Here are few samples (Cosina, Pentax and what the heck, my other little f1.4 guy - Sears m42). K10D, ISO 100, 1/8sec, all wide open, tripod (SR off), RAW>JPEG extracted in Pentax Photobrowser>PS saved as JPEG after resizing with "quality set at 10:

Hin - first of world, you are too kind :o Second - let's give the credit when it's due - exactly what Javier said, that last photo from the set is fantastic! Absolutely love everything about it, bravo my friend!!!

Also, huge thank you for taking your time to do these tests with Hoya filters, I've always wondered how well would this lens perform with closeup attachment, and it appears to be a wonderful performer, so thank you! Up until now, the only draw back I saw in this terrific lens was the fact that I was not able to focus closer... Now I know that I can.

Ans speaking of those Hoya filters, as cheap as those are, I was amazed how well does Pentax FA 50mm f1.4 and Sears 50mm f1.4 m42 perform with those filters (I have exactly same set as you do, but in 52mm).

Hoods - glad I'm not the only one using them, I've been purchasing from heavystar for years, and find those hoods are exceptional products for the price, have exact same 58mm hood on Cosina with the same cap from them as you pictured, similar hoods on Pentax 50mm lens and Sears lens from them too (but 62mm with step-up rings), works like a charm!

Regards,
D

P.S. Hin - that last photo, what aperture?

Thank you all for the comments, I appreciate indeed!

I love this lens, and the fact that I can shoot in the dark lit house at ISO 100-400, and maintain fairly good shutter speed - nice!

Exactly! So many colors and shapes to choose from!

Georg - no idea how to describe it, but love the effect!

Some more from the past few rainy day (naturally wide open) :)

More holiday spirit (I think this would be my next year Christmas card):

From the walk in the rainy woods:

Shameless plug - my ugly a$$:

The only color left in my yard:

Same rainy, gloomy woods:

And to finish off the day right:

C&C always welcome.

Agree, it does make it a little more challenging with such shallow dof, almost considering getting split screen after holidays :hmm:

It's been raining for a week now, so to bring up some color (Christmas tree in the bg):
