As I am in Berlin for a few days at the moment (cold and bleak, even though the snow has cleared) I find your pics particularly atmospheric.

And I am also a fan of the kit lens.

Thanks Noel and Jewelltrail. The thing about the kit lens is that it may not be absolutely the best lens around technically, but if you take into account its size and weight, it is as good a travel lens as any. And I do have a Sigma 17-70 etc. etc.

This one is particularly nice.

The others demonstrate a difficulty that's even worse with dogs than with humans - focusing on the eyes puts the nose a bit too much out of focus to be quite comfortable. So you need either to get a bit further away or stop down a bit more (which may give you a problem with shutter speed ... you go round in circles!)

I'm not saying these are my best images at all, but I do use the kit 18-55 (Mk 1 version) for travel - it's great for just dumping in the suitcase, I don't treat it with any respect - and yet in good light it can come up with results which challenge lenses costing much more. These three were taken in Thailand over Christmas, on a boat trip. Somewhat PPd in Lightroom, and I had a polariser on for the last one.

They're pretty good at 100% viewing, although if you really really pixel peep you can see it's not a prime at the edges. But it would take a very large print for that to be noticeable even if you were looking for it.

Came across this one while responding to a challenge on 'another forum' - taken with the 18-55 mk 1, 18mm, on the DS in India. I'd never looked at it very seriously before, but I think it has a lot of charm.
