Great shot Mike. Again you have captured a unique, imaginative view of a typical subject.
...and I also wonder if inmates are enjoying their privileged opportunity.

Love this one Mike. The composition and colors are wonderful. I enjoy the pastels that can come up behind soft clouds like this in the early morning and late evening.

No, I don't think a better explanation is needed. I was hoping your reasons were along this line. It is a subjective preference and helps explain why I never wanted to give up my SMC K lenses for M When shooting 35mm film. There are unique rendering qualities in the color, bokeh, and contrast with certain optics that can best be understood only while properly viewing the resulting artwork. Glorifying measurements from an optical bench sometimes leaves us with a cold, clinical, exact image lacking life.

These are nicely done but how does the image compare to those done with the P645 macros? Is it the closer distance and different perspective you like? Most are using longer focal lengths at least partially to give more working room. Just curious. I have the P645 and my medium format experience is only with film.

Ingenious
Replacement battery holders are rare and I can see this type of solution could work well if it's not too difficult to install securely.

Love the colors here with the soft rendering under overcast. An effective understated, subtle composition well done.

Good photos Stephen. Yes the Z can add the instant gratification but these are good because of your dedication to the ground level shot. I know crawling around on the wet forest floor is not easy but the best way.
You must be a Fun Guy...lol

The second scene in B&W, your #4, is my favourite. I think the composition is far more effective in the strong B&W rendering you have given it. It's just nice in colour but the contrast between foreground, middle, and background really separate in beautiful contrast with a full range of near black to bright white. Well done itshimitis. Please show us more B&W.

And you were sensitive to that light and ready in short order. Well done. Perhaps you can process this one for the mood or color closer to what you felt at the time but we viewers weren't there so it's a unique photo as it is.

So that's your secret Mike. I'll spare myself the needless expense of a 645Z then since I don't have a top that goes down. Do you have something like a specially made captain's chair that sits up high out of the car with a custom made camera mounting system to enable the spectacular photos you shoot? I knew it, but I wouldn't have a very long season to use it around here anyway and besides we would probably be mandated to use a helmet which I'm sure would get in the way. LOL
Just had a great respite from normal winter around here but zero opportunity for me. Will have to keep coming here, usually in the middle of the night, for my photo fix of your work and others.

These African wildlife shots are great. I was hoping someone would show medium format could do more things if one were patient enough. Even if these animals are on a preserve and accustomed to people you have shown the techniques required are not limited to the use of smaller cameras. Come to think of it, some Canikons with a grip and long lens are pretty close to the size of your equipment anyway.

A wonderful series and I appreciate that it's not done with the usual Canikon 10 fps "monster". After all, our early memories of sports and action photos were all done with old, often awkward, film cameras with slow lenses and a ton of talent.
Your talent is apparent and the camera is small and efficient compared to a few decades ago. The timing in your shots is great.

Very nice shot. Love the light in the clouds and that you contrasted that with the darker and moody foreground. There's enough light in the rocks and water to show the necessary detail without spoiling it so one's eye is drawn to highlights in the cloud. Too much of the hdr treatment would have mushed up this very successful composition.

This square crop is very effective. I think it tightens up the composition for more impact.

Perhaps because I wasn't there, I really like your final result. Moody blue tone balanced with last remnants of sunset often produces a unique image and you've done well.

Careful not to process there too long. You might get much slower too after a few beers.
Wonderful images here. You're producing a gallery.

Very good. I like the progression through dusk. Very nice balance as the night lights come on. Interesting effect with the long exposure stream in #3. Is that a moire effect in the foreground?
