Yes it was a special occassion and no I only had the one bottle other than a 1983 vintage as well. I had purchased it in the early 90's for $50 and if I knew then ehat I know now I would have purchased many more!! :o
As for the wine, all I can say is that they are worth the money and live up to all the hype, but only if it is correctly cellared and drunk at the right time. The fruit of this bottle was still very rich, yet as smooth as mother's milk and perfectly balanced, ie fruit, tanins and acid all at harmony with each other. In other words, a superb bottle of wine.

I purchased it in 1994 for $50 and I would say that it was worth about $500 when I drank it. :D

Supped this wine a few years ago and decided to "match the lens to the wine" so to speak. For those that do not know, Penfold's "Grange Hermitage" is considered to be the one of the best, if not the best, wine available in Australia and also amongst the best in the world, so it goes nicely with the FA31 f1.8 Limited. ;) |
