$600 total for me for a fine working lens. It was $100 more than his non working SDM lens. That's what I meant to say. Either way the 50-135 is as nice as a prime in that range. So nice I have no need of an FA 77 :)

That price seems rather steep for a non working SDM lens. I purchased one for a $100 more with SDM working just fine.

You know, that Scottish "accent" gives you away every time :) My ancestors hail from Kilkenny Ireland so I do feel some connection to you "blokes" across the pond :)

Line 2 part c. The k5 is not listed. Should it be?

Do you happen to know the modset file for the K5? I don't see that listed or did I miss something?

Great information pjm1. I can see already the first mistake that I made. Step 2. I was under the assumption Pktether opened up the "Full" DeBug menu in the camera. Apparently that is only partially true. You still must use a boot file from the SD card to open it. I wish I could have read your post before I sent my camera off. Again, thanks for taking the time to post the "Correct" way for users with a K-5 to convert from SDM to screwdrive. I've got the DA*50-135 so when it does fail this will help me.

I tried both my K5 and sisters K100d with no luck. It looks to me like the process is different with every camera. I can see how others may get frustrated and give up. Like me :) No matter, my lens is under warranty anyway so I am sending it off now for repair.
If you could however try to write down the exact steps you took to convert your 50-135, I think that would be very helpful. The current instructions are very vague in my opinion and do not lend themselves to regular computer users for success.

Cool...even better.... I much prefer the screwdrive over the SDM anyway.

My sister has a K100D. I wonder if that camera would work?

Attempting SDM to screwdrive procedure for K-5 DA*16-50 using Pktether.......results to follow....... ---------- Post added 03-08-14 at 09:30 AM ---------- No Joy. I can enter the TEST MODE on the C menu, but I cannot get into the De Bug Mode via the modset.474 file using the [OPEN_DEBUG_MENU] command. Looks like its off to Henry's for them to send out for repair.

Please see Pjm1 post for the "correct" way to deactive SDM and convert to screw drive with a K-5

Some have said it is a bit faster. Others have not noticed a difference. So I guess its all about perception?

But if all you're doing is changing over to screw drive from SDM it doesn't matter right?

I thought PKtether took care of this. What's the difference?
