Indeed it is a great astro lens – and the K-5 sensor (at least in the K-5 II incarnation that I used to shoot) does an extremely fine job too.

If you used the lens hood you will find that it cropped the extra surface of the full frame quite nicely. Without the hood, the lens works very well for 21x21mm square crops or even a bit more depending on the f-stop. The full frame is not usable in my book.

Thank you! Great shot you got there. I've been shooting Perseids for several years, mostly with more success than this year, and indeed the meteors always go from green to red. And I must say the Samyang 16mm is really a great lens for things like these. I've had the opportunity to use the 20mm f/1.8 on a K-1 recently and it is fine too but not on the same level as the 16mm.

I only know the 16mm which is just great for astro purposes. I'm using the K-5 II and its sensor is better for low light than that of the K-3 that my son has. So I'd recommend skipping the K-3 II and choosing the KP or the K-3 successor which I sincerely hope will come out soon.

Thank you for your kind words! ---------- Post added 08-12-17 at 07:08 PM ----------
Thank you Jeff for this most generous critique! I feel that being there at the right time indeed contributed most to the shot.

So you're already covered for many shooting situations. Even with the fine finders Pentax gives us on its APS-C cameras, manually focussing fast lenses such as the Samyangs is not too easy, so your street photography probably will not profit from using them. For landscapes, to go really wide you might consider the 14mm lens which has a great reputation, or for super-wide even the 10mm. I have neither of those but I have the 16mm which is a great and super-sharp lens for many purposes including landscape and night skies. For portraits the 85mm would be an obvious choice (even if a little long on APS-C). The 135mm must be a magnificent long tele, at least for non-action photography. I haven't used it either but I find that manual focus is much easier with my Voigtlander 125mm/2.5 than with the 16mm Samyang.
