The fat or the lean one? (In other words, 67 or 49mm filter thread?)

That’s unfortunately not a rare thing with old lenses, but I noticed that Takumars keep working much better than other brands. Servicing them is not too difficult and will take care of the issue.

Holewort, taken with the K-1 and Super-Takumar 1:2/35 (first version with 67mm filter thread) plus extension tube 1 at f/2,8 (?).

Not quite. In the mists of time, before Asahi Optical started making their own cameras, they made a 75mm f/3.5 Takumar that was used on the 6x6 Press Van strut-folding cameras.* But I tried fitting the M42 S-M-C Bellows-Takumar 100mm f/4 on my Zenza Bronica S2 and in the close range that is possible due to the long flange-focal distance of the Bronica it works quite well. The maximum distance with the Bronica helicoid and a thin adapter is approximately 75cm and here the Heliar type Bellows-Takumar easily covers the 6x6 frame with no obvious loss of sharpness right into the corners.

* Used to great effect by our fellow forum member Frédéric @fs999, e.g.: Post your B&W Film shots - Page 762 - PentaxForums.com

Two sample shots taken in July 2022 with this combo: Zenza Bronica S2, Super-Multi-Coated Bellows-Takumar 1:4/100, f/6.7, 1/500 (first) or f/5.6, 1/250 (second), Ilford Delta 100 film/Adox FX-39 II 1+14 developer

Indeed that’s a rumour. The Auto-Takumar 55 f/2 was introduced in 1958. The Yashinon/Tominon that is rumoured to be the same lens is 50mm and was introduced in late 1961 with the Yashica Penta J. I have handled both and they are similar but also clearly different in significant details. I would say the Yashinon was styled after the Takumar and that is all.

Tomato plant. Zenza Bronica S2, Super-Multi-Coated Bellows-Takumar 1:4/100, f/6.7, 1/500, Ilford Delta 100 film/Adox FX-39 II 1+14 developer. At closeup but not yet macro distance, the Bellows-Takumar effortlessly fills the 6x6 frame of the Zenza Bronica.

This is the internet. Stuff gets repeated a lot but that does not make it true. I’ve handled both the Takumar and the Yashinon/Tomioka, which is 50mm rather than 55mm by the way, and they are clearly different. But I suspect the Yashinon to have been styled after the Takumar.

I’m afraid there is no single “the 55mm” (neither f/2 nor f/1.8). There were very likely several versions based on the same basic construction, just as with the 7 element 50mm f/1.4. Who would have guessed that the two versions measured behave so different? See here for the 55mm: Radioactive Pentax Takumar lenses.

Any photos to post? :)

I feel that considering price vs. quality and reliability Ilford films are still the best choice, with the possible exception of some Adox stuff. If you are looking for adventure, on the other hand, there are many options these days…
