My pleasure! The new scans look just great. I get best results scanning negatives with Vuescan (VueScan Scanner Software for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux), but when you include the sprocket holes in the image area it will also require some post colour/contrast correction.

I do my PP in Photoshop (CS6) and tend to do what I can in Curves (Image > Adjustments > Curves) which gives you much more control than most other kinds of adjustment. In your image I tried to approximate a correct black point mainly by lowering the bottom end of the green curve. Negative scans often need non-linear corrections (for instance, less green in the shadows, more green in the highlights). It takes some practice to see how an image can be improved, but I find it helpful to keep an eye on the info palette window and read the RGB values to see in which way parts that should be neutral are off. And a calibrated monitor is essential.

I'm pretty sure that the colour looks bad because the sprocket holes throw the automatic black point calculation of the scanning software off. The light that passes through is unfiltered by the orange mask, something that the software is not prepared for. Dig this for a very quick correction (for better results a raw scan would be needed):

P.S. I also like the effect, very nice shot!

Great shot! User itshimitis was kind enough to agree to my posting of an "alternative" reading of his image (modified colour and saturation, and different crop):

Cool lighting and great detail! I like both shots but especially the first one.

Thanks! I waited for a quarter of an hour in the rain for the sun to come out with my camera and tripod set up. Then an attendant came and tried to chase me away because I had no official permission to shoot there, but I pleaded so convincingly that he let me get my shot.
