I couldn't be bothered wading through this long posting, but as I dipped in I found complaints about the upgrade of the 35mm being based on the old screw drive design and therefore a lousy idea for a new lens release.
I have several screw drive and modern motor lenses and to be honest I never really give it a thought which is which. The screw drive may be a little sower. It may possibly be that the very last fraction of a mm can't be reached when using AF. It may be a little more noisy. However, it's reliable. Comes in smaller, lighter packaging. Is cheaper. So what exactly is wrong with screw drive for many users needs ? Not trying to wind folk up, just interested...
