As for books, I would pick up "Photographically Speaking" by David duChemin. Great read that does not talk about technical things, just what makes a strong photograph and how to express your own vision through photography. Other study recommendations would be like what so many of the other posters have said. You should find photographers that you feel make photographs that you would like to make and study them to see what it is about them that makes you feel a certain way. There is a good chance that much of it is not the subject, but rather other elements and decisions that the photographer made. And yes, keep going to galleries of all kinds; not just for photography. Find your own ways to express what you feel. You do not need to be like everyone else or be technically perfect.
