Looks like an interesting lens to play with.
I notice there are a couple of reviews in KONICA 40mm F1.8 Lens Reviews - Miscellaneous Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database.
Perhaps you could add a review and include a photo and description of the lens to help make the review page more complete?

Interesting shot. I don't see any problem with the corner sharpness that is mentioned in the one review in the lens review section. Looks like the kind of lens that deals with low contrast situations well but has problems with high contrast. I have a few of those (e.g. Ricoh XR 135 and Sigma DG 70-300).
Perhaps you could put a review in the lens review section.

It is always nice to see some off-brand action. One of the more joyful threads on PF. But I had not realised how long it had been.

Your Auto Chinon looks useful enough, although I suspect it will be one of those lenses to use in more subdued lighting.

How did you manage to get so close with a 35mm lens?
Or are these crops from the images?
Or is it a 135mm lens?

Looks nice!:)

Nice looking images. Quite a modern lens feel aside from the five aperture blades.
How does it go with high contrast? How much processing was required to achieve this output?

One of the markets that Osawa followed was for Mamiya SLRs. We owned a Mamiya ZE-X which was by far the most advanced 35mm camera of its day. It had quite an unusual mount for the time with numerous contacts for information to be transmitted between the lens and body. The only lenses available for the mount were Mamiya or Osawa lenses. Possibly Osawa backed the wrong horse because the Mamiya 35mm cameras failed in the market place. Even then it was hard to win market share against the big four (Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Minolta).
The main Osawa lenses I used were a couple of one touch tele zooms and a 300mm f5.6 mirror lens. They were half the price of the Mamiya equivalents. The mirror lens was kind of cool as it was quite small and very light. I still own it but the silvering on the mirrors has corroded and one mirror has come loose in the housing. The tele zooms were pretty good at the long end and one of them had a nice macro feature. I think they had pretty good coatings as when I look back at my old photos from that period there is very little flare or chromatic issues, but I was pretty ruthless with my collection so I'm probably just seeing the best ones. The overall lens quality was appropriate for the price. They lasted better than some of the Canon lenses I owned just after that and about the same as the Nikons.

Does the lens say where it was made?
Most modern Rokinon lenses were made by Samyang in Korea.

Well you have already expressed an opinion about the lens and most of the user reviews are just doing that, highlighting what they think the lens is good for, what it's weaknesses are and if it has survived the test of time. You obviously have started a substantial lens collection and you opinion is as valid as anyone else's.

Your review is not set in stone. You can edit and add to it at any time.

:) I don't think your membership for this club is in any doubt. (I've seen some of your other contributions on this site! and your signature line.)

Is your CZJ 50 2.8 the same as this one:
Carl Zeiss Jena 50mm F2.8 Tessar Lens Reviews - Miscellaneous Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database
Extra opinions added to the database are much easier for others to find rather than having to trawl through these lens clubs. They are a good place to put cross references to image posts you add here.

Although, one usually finds something interesting here, even if it was not what you were looking for.

Zeiss is not usually lacking recognition as a brand...;)

Interesting focus fall-off.

Perhaps you could write a review for the lens database?

That is beyond Bokeh. That is serious distortion. Is there a lens element loose or has the lens been disassembled at some stage? Looks like the focal plane is not flat.

Looks like a Sears made by Samyang. You will find the lens changes dramatically if you use the macro ring.

Looks like an interesting lens. Nice choice of sample shots.
I don't think having lots of aperture blades guarantees, nice bokeh; just nice round OOF highlights. The round shape almost seems to make those highlights more 'edge heavy'. In turn this can make for some distracting artefacts as focus falls away on the subject. Some lenses that have star shaped apertures or other eccentric or simple polygons often seem to perform well in this regard.

Any chance you could add some more data to the lens description. Dimensions, mass, minimum focus distance, etc.?

Minimum focus is a bit of a problem for zooms I guess, but I'd focus at the closest distance on a flat object, then measure to the camera focal plane. Not sure where the focal plane actually is but on K20D I think it was pretty close to the back of the flash housing.
Failing this just read it from the lens distance scale as a ball park figure.

If it will fit a Pentax then it should go in the database, particularly K mount or the old Pentax screw mount. Within this, the more exotic the better.
I've resisted adding old Nikkor lenses which can be fitted with the same functionality as screw mount lenses.:o

Your manual may give details (e.g. appendix 5 in K10D manual).
In summary, if your lens has no aperture ring or an "A" position then it will let the camera meter and control the aperture automatically. Older lenses such as the M or "K" series from Pentax still let the aperture be set while you preview the scene at the largest aperture, but you will have to set the aperture with the aperture ring and the camera will not know what that aperture is. You can still get the camera to meter with your set aperture via the green button. This can set the shutter speed semi-automatically. I always use M and the green button for this type of lens but I believe there are other options using the Av setting. Most other settings become Av anyway.
Then there are lenses that have no camera control of the aperture. These include Screw mount lenses and most other lenses via adapters. These can be used by manually controlling the aperture but the lens won't spring open to the largest aperture for focusing and composing. To obtain the most accurate focus you can set the aperture wide open, then stop down to meter and shoot. Some screw mount lenses have an Auto switch which throws the aperture between wide open and whatever you have set it to so as you don't have to take your eyes off the subject.
Your new lens has an aperture ring that is sequenced in reverse to the normal Pentax direction and is controlled by a lever that is set in an odd position. Before you mount it to your camera, check it against a trusted Pentax lens and check that everything is roughly in the same positions. It could be that the lens is a modified version that was made for another mount. We won't know until you get a good look at it or post better photos.
Once you have established that you can mount the lens, put it on and try using the green button for metering. Some lenses don't work reliably with the green button, but you may be able to deal with this by using exposure compensation or just try and wing it with "M".
Good Luck.:)

The aperture lever for this lens is in an odd position and I can't see a red dot anywhere. The photo is pretty poor though so maybe I'm missing something.
Do you have the lens in hand yet?

Thanks for the review, however it would be nice to include colour images rather than monochrome. Is the colour performance of the lens one of it's weak points?
Also listing the lens weight and minimum focus distance in it's description would be nice.

I think the "auto" probably refers to the fact that it can leave the aperture open for focusing and the camera will stop it down to what you have set for taking the photo or when you press the green button.

Not familiar with the lens but Quantaray re-badged lenses so if you look through the database for those specs without the brand you may find the lens under another name.
The backwards aperture ring is interesting. I wonder how that will work?
Would be interested to see an image of the back end of the lens.

If it is what I suspect, you will need to use full manual exposure with this lens.

Your samples here show it to be a nicely balanced lens.
Is it big and heavy?

Perhaps you could add a review to the database?

How does it handle high contrast?
