You might want to try using Nik's Viveza software, which allows use of Control Points with its Brightness, Contrast, Saturation and Structure tools. You could thereby work with small portions of the image. Or you could adjust the entire image. I use the Viveza 2 version. But there's a newer version. Best wishes.

Below are a few images from my most recent visit to a small wetland approximately 15 minutes from my home at Midland, Michigan.
I like to go there before sunset and watch great egrets fly in and roost.

The lens is an older 100-300mm. The K-S2 is on a monopod. The tight shot of the egrets with one great blue heron was captured at ISO 2500, 1/200, f/5.6.

Comments and criticism of my images are most welcome.

Best wishes to all.

Below are some of my images from an evening shoot at Dahlia Hill in Midland, Michigan. Details on that garden — planted and maintained by volunteers are at Dahlia Hill - unlike any other dahlia garden
The camera is a monopod-mounted K-S2. The last image was captured with a Lensbaby Sol 45. Others were captured with a Takumar-F 28-80 1:3.5-4.5. (Perhaps a Raynox 150 was added for one or more of the images.)

These are cross-posted from Picture of The Week #521.

The first four images were captured at Mike Moats' excellent fifth annual Macro Photo Conference near Cleveland, Ohio. The colorful shells were captured with a briefly borrowed Lensbaby Velvet 56 lens. For all the other images, I used an older Pentax 100mm macro lens. The last image — for which I also used the 100mm lens — was captured at Kensington Metropark in southeast Michigan. By the way, the critters in the conference photos are a veiled chameleon and an Amazon milk frog. The other image from the conference is a water drop refraction image set up by conference speaker and superb photographer Don Komarechka. He is a master of snowflake close-ups and other challenging work.

The images below were captured with either a smc Pentax-F 1:4.5-5-6 35-80mm lens or a SMC Macro 1:4/100.

The vertical blurred image is another frame of the Coralburst Crabapple tree blossoms shown in the previous vertical image.

Comments and criticism are most welcome.

Best wishes!

These cross-posted images were captured at Whiting Overlook Park in Midland County, Michigan, with my RMC Tokina 500 1:8 on my K-S2, supported by an inexpensive chest pod I bought years ago from a camera store's clearance table. Regrettably, I don't know what happened immediately after the series of three images of the two bucks.
The image of gulls is a grab shot at 1/125 second.
Processing was in Lightroom 4 and in Dfine from the Nik Collection.
