I invested two hours yesterday evening photographing great egrets with a Tokina 500mm f/8 mirror lens on my tripod-mounted K-S2. Only a few great egrets were at the wetland in Midland County, Michigan when I arrived. When I left, at least 50 were roosted there. These three images were captured at ISO 3200. Warmest wishes to all for the holiday season and 2018!
These two images of the same red squirrel were captured through glass of a sliding door with handheld Pentax K-S2 and smc Pentax-F 1:4.5-5.6 100-300mm. They were processed in Lightroom 4 and in the Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Dfine 2. Leaning In by smfmi, on Flickr Red Squirrel by smfmi, on Flickr

Images were captured at Whiting Overlook Park in Midland County, Michigan, with RMC Tokina 500mm 1:8 (bought through the Marketplace) on my Pentax K-S2, supported with an inexpensive chest pod bought years ago from a camera shop's clearance table.
Images were processed (including cropping) in Lightroom 4 and the Nik Collection's Dfine.
Regrettably, I do not know what happened immediately after the series of three images involving the two bucks.
Thanks to everyone who posts in this thread!
Best wishes,
Stu

Below are two of my recent images captured with the Tokina 500mm f/8 mirror lens I bought through the Pentaxforums Marketplace. The lens was on my handheld Pentax K-S2. Other possibilities which might be worth trying are use of remote shutter release, setting your capture so that one command for release of the shutter results in multiple shots, and (for still birds) acquiring focus in Live View.

Thanks very much for your reply. I do not know whether he moved during the posted exposure. However, I hope for better results when I switch to tripod mounting of my Manfrotto 393 gimbal head and use of a remote shutter release instead of the combination of monopod mounting and pressing the camera's shutter release with my finger. I did use continuous release for some of my captures instead of one frame per push of the shutter release button.

I am learning to use a new-to-me Tokina 500mm mirror lens (a Pentax Marketplace purchase) with my K-S2, a Manfrotto 393 gimbal head and either a Manfrotto monopod or a tripod.
This image of a snowy-beaked Northern cardinal was captured through the glass of a sliding door. Comments, suggestions and criticism are welcome — by PM if you prefer that to posting in this thread.
I greatly admire images posted here. Thanks very much and best wishes to all. " target="_blank"> |

Image captured through glass of sliding door with handheld K-S2 and Sakar 1:8 500mm. (The lens is not the mirror variety.)
I am unsure, despite consulting three good resources, whether the finch is a house finch or a purple finch.
It was a very productive photo shoot, yielding images of a woodpecker, male cardinal, bluejay and sparrows.
Thanks very much to all who post in this thread! " target="_blank"> |

I had great fun photographing a pair of mute swans with their cygnets at Bay City (Michigan) State Recreation area.
After this swan's mate and cygnets left the water, this swan seemed to be tidying up part of the bank. I would be grateful for information about the behavior.

A cormorant is in the foreground and a Canada goose (I think) in the distant background watch a procession of Canada geese.
The scene was captured from Whiting Overlook Park in Midland County, Michigan, on an evening when reflections and birds' wakes in the still water were especially impressive.

Eagle Calls, Crow Listens
The image was captured in Golson Nature Area in Bay City, Michigan, with an smc Pentax F 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 at 300 mm on a handheld Pentax K-x. The crow spent considerable time in positions very close to the eagle, which did not try to make lunch out of it. The eagle was across a trail from a nest occupied by another adult eagle and at least two eaglets.
