A bigger question is why Pentax even has this menu setting as an option? What harm is it in having the aperture ring enabled all the time?

I end up with that setting the first time I add a lens that needs the aperture ring to the camera. I never turn it back off. Perhaps the more appropriate question is should I ever turn it off?
