Just a couple of quick shots on the street with my $75.00 400mm solution: the el cheapo tammy 80-210mm adaptall-2 non-SP zoom (f/3.8-4.0) with the SP 2X teleconverter. Pretty happy with the combo to play with these focal lengths (not really where I shoot all the time), and to boot I can do 1:1 with my SP 90mm now!

Yes, this lens needs about 25% contrast boost in LR, yes there is PF/CA. Not too hard to fix these things. Not bad IQ, given the rig. Second shot is cropped at about 25%. Both shots only have contrast boosted by 25% and a bit of clarity (~20%) in Lightroom. No sharpening.

Still loving this lens! Walkabout in Chinatown in downtown Montréal this a.m. Nice time of day (before 9:00am) because there aren't loads of tourists.. ;)

Hehe, actually, that's the middle position single coil- well, with this lens, you see dust that you can't really see in real life.. ;) I was just playing with the lens. Honestly, I leave the guitar hung up on the wall and it's coated in fingerprints and dust: I do play it often enough, just don't clean it!

Here are some shots of my copy of the SP 90mm f/2.5 taken with my 28-200mm zoom, to keep in the spirit of the Tammy club! Tammy's shooting Tammy's!

The only cosmetic issues are a few scratches in the exterior of the hood, and the fact that the last B in "52BB" is slightly rubbed on the bottom, so it looks more like "52BR".

The last shot shows the lens hood- I went and bought some sticky-back felt and lined the inside of the hood. Of course it doesn't change things drastically in terms of wash-out in extreme backlight, but it helps, and with a bit of PP I can still rescue the contrast on *most* shots.

I know I'd posted this in the SLR lens section, but I'm so happy!

A REAL member of the Tammy club now- not just a super-zoom in the bag, but I wouldn't let it go right now anyways!

Picked up this amazing lens, a 52BB model SP 90mm f/2.5 1:2.5 macro in excellent condition- no cosmetic blemishes, pristine glass, with the PKA adapter with contacts! Was a little confused at first since no aperture info was showing up in the viewfinder, but thanks again to the PentaxForums, I found the thread on removing the glue from the screw points on the adapter and voila! Full Av/Tv modes, auto ISO compensation, etc.

I was looking into a decent fast 85mm for available light work- I just love the way you can make your subject "pop" at this FL- but a superTak or M was out of the question due to prices, and the Jupiter-9 85mm was tempting, but what a bunch of "if's" with that lens and getting a good copy. I think this is a brilliant solution. It's a bit tight at 90mm, but moving back a foot is an option when using it.. :) f/1.8 to f/2 would have been nice- but then, you don't get that amazing sharpness of this lens with the standard 85's, and macro to boot. Not to mention the whole metering thing.. ;)

$100.00 Canadian with the PKA adapter and the lens hood. That's about 80.00 US. Whoo hoo!

Didn't come with the extension tube- I'll look into finding it at some point, but I'm not a bug shooter, really.

Here's some samples:

Even the cat approves!

So today, I was playing around with focal lengths, because I'd like to have a nice fast indoor portrait vibe lens- something where I don't have to stand on top of a subject (like my cat!) to get a great candid expressive shot. Thinking of trying to find a manual focus (M or K series) 85mm or a Takumar at 85mm- one of the fast copies out there.

So, I stuck my 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 IF AS XR on the body, and was playing around at 70mm and 85mm. Spot metering just for practice. I was shooting my cat AGAIN, since he's the only thing moving other than me during the day, and this little series popped out. I blew out the high end intentionally, but left the Lightroom default sharpening in place and just a bit of a tweak to the shadows range in curves.

All were shot at maximum aperture (4.5/5.6) at ISO 800. I'm not posting crops, but there is a lot of good detail in these shots! I'm feeling super blessed with this lens, and every time I think "oh, it's just a piece of junk" I get some shots that I really enjoy!

Unfortunately he was moving quite quickly in the shot below, so there is some motion blur around his head- his paws were still. I still love the expression and his "pose".

cardinal-

It's a seperate shot, actually taken on the other side of the bridge, and that's at 200mm.

I'd be happy to post a 1:1 crop of a part of shot #1 if you'd like- some of the lower detail of the bridge pilings?

That is too bad about having a lemon lens- I was glad to have a few sample shots before I purchased the lens here on the market place. I'm glad to have it iterated again by other users (who's photos outshine anything I've done yet!) that I made a decent choice for a decent price.

I will be taking this lens to France with my kit lens and my M 50mm f/1.7, and I'm feeling really good about this travel kit. I also picked up a Lowepro slingshot 100AW- what a great little bag!

I do find purple fringing to be rough at f/8.0, but at f/11, it seems to be a little less problematic.

One thing I find is that the zoom ring is really stiff- mine even squeaks a bit when making minor adjustments! stevbrot and duh vinci: does this get better after time?

Well, I "upgraded" from one cheaper lens (a 28-105mm IF only) to this 28-200mm, another cheaper lens!

It's not the DI lens, which, perhaps, isn't the best choice, but I only paid $115.00 here on the marketplace (which all went very smoothly!) so I'm quite pleased. Some shots from a walk-around this morning. Yes, there are CA issues and purple fringing at the extreme end of the zoom, but I'm willing to take 10 minutes in PS for the price I've paid for this lens to get rid of it if I really find the shot worth it.

Sharpness is fair for me- again, a touch of sharpening and all is well! I'd love more detail, but for now, I don't want to spend $$$$ for a bit more detail. At 8x10 prints, this lens seems to be doing OK.

Some PP done on all shots, a touch of sharpening and some levels adjustment, but all in all much less than what I was having to do to the shots taken with the 28-105mm.

This one I've done quite a bit of PP to darken the walls and bring out mostly highlights:

This one had a big exposure adjustment and a deep top/bottom crop, but I wanted to get to the heart of the matter:

I know this is a complete POS lens, but I'm having alot of fun with this for a whole 65.00!

Took this last night from friends' balcony, looking towards Montreal. A touch of PP for sharpening and a +.38 EV exposure boost in Lightroom.

Stitched in Photoshop. Really too bad to have that big building on the left side: just erected last year, wish I had had this camera before and have gotten some shots!

Fun shot I took this afternoon: it's definately that time of year! I've setup a preset in Lightroom for this lens: A touch of masked sharpening, (about 15%), some clarity (about 20%) and slight bump on the blacks and contrast. Really makes the shots jump out- I hope it doesn't make them look too processed!
