Kayama first came to fame playing surf music in the 60s, including covers of the Ventures and Dick Dale along with his original stuff. It's a beautiful guitar.

Thanks, I appreciate it. World's smallest fox with the biggest fox ears. Sort of like elephant ears in that they radiate heat and help cool the little critter down in the desert, as well as making it look unbearably cute.

The zoo is my default solution to not getting out and shooting enough. The lion and the fox are through glass, the zebra and the pelican were just out and about in their respective spaces. All are with the DA 55-300 WR. Overall I was pretty happy with the performance of the lens, which I don't use that much. I'm also happy that the shake reduction in the K-3 is so good because I'm a bit unsteady hand-held at 300mm. Your basic zebra Sleeping lion Great white pelican Fennec |

Couple more from January in Tokyo, both with the DA 18-135. The first is from the cemetery where the last Shogun of Japan is buried, the second is a street in an old shopping district not far from the cemetery. Yanaka Cemetery Yanaka Ginza |

Thanks, John. McWhinney particularly was great. I was lying on my back in the photo pit and he strolled over to give me that shot. Elton John was just looking in the direction of four photographers and I happened to be the one most directly in his line of sight on that shot. Everybody got one. He knows where the cameras are.
Great stuff on your flickr photostream; thanks for visiting mine.

Everybody saw them. No one has ever seen anything like it. An executive committee meeting has been called.
I was just here browsing and didn't see them.

I'm a Zombies fan. They're older than me but not by a whole lot. My favorite concert shot was of Big Mountain's lead singer Quino McWhinney, which I think I posted a couple years ago, but I got some decent ones of the older guys here and there. I hope to get another shot at Elton before he calls it entirely quits. Green Room Festival Honolulu 2016 Elton John |

Really nice work, John. I shoot concerts from time to time as well, and I know how challenging the lighting can be. The rockers I shoot tend to be more on the geriatric end of the spectrum, though.

Nicely done. I don't think I've ever seen a bass player with that many effects boxes. Was he playing lead as well?

Beautiful shot. For selfish reasons I'm sorry you haven't been out and about with the camera; I always love your work.

First one is with a fixed-aperture Tokina 500mm f/8 manual focus mirror lens, so you never have to worry about finding just the right aperture. It's handheld so not as sharp as it could be; the lens isn't especially heavy but it's just too long for handheld, at least for me. Second is a shot down the Waikiki shoreline taken on the tripod at a height of about two feet on the waterline, with a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 macro. I'm pretty happy with the performance of the mirror lens under the circumstances. Random portrait in Waikiki The beach hotels and points north |

Took a walk down to Waikiki last night and a good time was had by all, most notably by the group in the first shot.

This one rocks. The bridge shot is great but I really, really like the train tracks.

These are with the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. I was pleasantly surprised by the starbursts on the stronger lights in the first one. I include the shot with the buskers mostly to highlight the camera shake reduction, because I shot it at 1/13th and my hands aren't the steadiest although I'm getting better. Journey front man Arnel Pineda doing a solo show with his own band. Shot with the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8, which I continue to be less than wild about. It's fine in strong lighting but it really struggles with focus in low light or concert lighting in ways none of my Pentax lenses do when there are multiple objects/people in the frame. It's the only fast zoom I have, though, so unless somebody drops a better one in my stocking... Arnel Pineda Arnel Pineda Arnel Pineda & band |
