It's not? You mean they're still making it?
I thought the Nikon 1 was the Microsoft Zune of mirrorless cameras.

What is KIV?
I hope the telephoto macro lens will eventually turn up. I've got money in my hand, Pentax! I'm throwing it at my computer screen! Why is nothing happening? :p
To me. . . The fashion these days is bigger sensors. Blindly following the current trend doesn't seem right to me. If sensor size is the criteria, then a Q with a slightly larger sensor is still going to lose out to M4/3 and everything bigger. Why try to compete in a metric where you're doomed to lose?

I appreciate that it works for you, but I'd have to quibble over your use of the word "easily". It looks awkward to me. I have a black canvas vest that's not too different from your denim vest. I can stuff the Q7 with an 01 lens into a pocket, but it's clunky and doesn't slip in and out easily. So, I pursued a different solution. . .
The Fuji REAL 3D W3 is the most pocketable of the three. I can easily forget I'm carrying it, and the stereo photos are amazing when viewed on a big-screen 3D TV set. It can do a few other tricks, such as snap a zoomed-in photo and a wide-angle photo simultaneously. Disadvantages. . . It has two truly tiny sensors (1/2.3-inch, 10 MP) and tiny zoom lenses and no RAW option. In terms of 2D image quality it's the most compromised of these cameras.
The Fujifilm XF1 is more of a conventional, premium, compact camera with a 12 MP 2/3-inch sensor and a telescoping zoom lens (6.4-25.6mm, f1.8-4.9). It's not as fully-featured or nice to to operate as the Q7, and obviously not as versatile as a bag full of lenses, but it's a decent enough all-rounder that does fit into my pocket "easily".
To me, these pocket cameras don't detract from my Q7. I see them more like accessories to it. They add to the flexibility of the system -- and what ties them together is that they all use the same battery. The Fuji NP-50 is the same thing as a Pentax D-LI68, fully interchangeable. I have four batteries to share between them, and I use the Fuji chargers; they plug directly into a wall socket without any cord.

It is possible for there to be more than one Q model. I'd love to see the Super Q produced in addition to the regular line. Again I'm thinking of what Olympus has done. When they brought in the OM-D, they didn't jettison the PEN.
I'd like to imagine the Q lineup becoming more and more important in Pentax's future, particularly as small-sensor technology improves. That does presume cooperative suppliers, though.

That's just the color-filter layer, isn't it? It doesn't seem like it would be hard to produce a Bayer sensor on the same line -- but maybe that's just my ignorance showing?
If other camera makers continue dropping 1/1.7", then it could soon become, effectively, a custom-sized sensor. What happens to Q then?
Hmm... How do Sigma get their Foveon sensors produced, I wonder? The volume has got to be tiny on those.
Vignetting on a larger sensor is not a problem. This can be turned into an advantage by only using a portion of the sensor and cropping to different aspect ratios. The question then becomes: what is the next readily-available step up in size from 1/1.7"?

Is that a problem? I haven't heard anything bad about Fuji sensors.
For that matter... This is Ricoh we're talking about, not a Kickstarter project working out of someone's garage. If they need a 2/3" sensor, I'm sure they can get somebody to produce one.

They could put in a bigger sensor, maybe 2/3". So, the lenses wouldn't fully cover it -- but it could use a variable portion of the sensor to produce different aspect ratios. That's something very few other cameras do, and it would be cool.
This!
I'd like to imagine a sort of "Super Q" with a magnesium body, oversized sensor, and an EVF. Let it be Pentax's answer to the OM-D.
