Knowing of her interest in photography, my daughter was gifted with an old film camera by a neighbour this past summer. This Canonet rangefinder from 1965 even predates me! Taken with my K110D and processed to look somewhat more "film-like."

That's the great thing about having all of one's old photos backed-up in RAW format. One has the option of re-visiting them years later when the RAW processing software improves and/or one's skills in PP improve. :)

Not sure how the original looked but I like what you've done with this one. Very nice, Paul!

Nice composition. I like how that thin band of sunlight reflecting off of the water clearly delineates the horizon line...almost like that ship is about to fall off the edge of the earth.

Paul, you are the master of tranquility photos. Another beauty.

Thanks, Mike. I was concerned I may have slightly over-cooked it. I enjoy fiddling about in PP, trying new things, and sometimes it's hard to know when to stop...

Thanks for the encouraging comments, gents! I would've liked to stay a little longer on the trail but my kids were somewhat less enthralled with the surroundings and wanted to go for an ice cream. I hope to go back there in the fall and spend some more time taking pictures without the pressure. :) It was a good reminder for me that there are enough interesting things to photograph right outside my own front door (this trail is a 5 min. drive from my house) and that one doesn't always have to travel to far-off, exotic locations to take some pleasant photos. In any case, the F35-70, despite its "less-than-robust" build quality has proven its worth and will remain in my arsenal of lenses. My thanks to paulh for giving me the much-needed push to get out and try it.

Finally got the chance to use an F35-70 lens I picked up a while ago (paulh inspired me). Went on a little hike along a portion of the Bruce Trail today with the K110D and here are a few samples. I find the macro setting provides some very pleasing results.

Sorry to hear that, Mike, hope you're back to full strength very soon. A recently-acquired *ist DL, hunh? Even I haven't gone back that far! :) That is an amazing amount of detail you've managed to coax out of the kit lens, though--well done, sir!

Thanks, Varky! To be fair, the A50 f2.8 macro can take a lot of the credit with respect to sharpness, but it is fun to see what the K110D is still capable of doing, even without the image stabilisation/shake reduction. My first Pentax digital was a K-x bought about 5 or 6 years ago. Since that time, I've been accumulating a stable of older second-hand bodies which can usually be picked up for a song these days (the K110D, K10D, K200D, K-m) and my K-x only gets pulled out when I need to shoot at a higher sensitivity. There's something about those old CCD sensors that produces an almost film-like rendering and it brings some of the fun back into the hobby. Enjoy your K110D!

Nothing wrong with the sharpness on that shot and it does have a nice bit of dimension to it. I have one copy of the kit lens that I'll never part with; it's a Type II and it must be a particularly good sample because, like the picture you just posted, it is capable of producing very pleasing results!

Thanks for the kind words, BigMackCam! By my reckoning, the camera is 10+ years old but it's new to me--was an impulse eBay purchase. I never thought I'd get such a kick out of it, but there's something massively satisfying about doing more with less. These "old" camera bodies fit within my limited budget and appeal to my frugal nature. :)

Thanks for the compliment, Paul. It was kind of a dreary day today which provided some nice soft lighting.

Dan, I'll echo what Skodadriver says. Like you, I also have the A 35-70 f4 and, while it is no slouch either, the 35-105 is definitely in a different league. I happened to come across mine in an eBay "buy it now" offering with three other lenses at a price that was just too good to pass up. The filter ring had a very slight ding which I was able to repair enough to make it functional. I slapped on a cheap and cheerful 67mm metal lens hood (also from eBay) and have been enjoying it ever since. It is a somewhat heavy lens and it does have a quirky "jog" to get it into "macro" mode which takes some getting used to. Could it replace a few primes? Maybe not in terms of speed, but as far as image quality, my eyes say, "yes!"

A couple more from the K110D and SMC Pentax-A 35-105mm f3.5 combination. And, no, Mike, you're not delusional; I'm also increasingly drawn to that "CCD look."

Thanks, paulh! All of our "old" Pentax gear still performs quite admirably, doesn't it?

Taken in the garden with my K110D behind a recently-acquired SMC Pentax-A 35-105mm f3.5 lens. I'm pleasantly surprised at how sharp this lens is wide open!
