Kookaburras are relatively common throughout Australia but difficult to capture showing the eye due to a heavy overhanging feathered brow. I usually only get a dark black hole so I'll settle for this.

I was sitting under a tree near Mannum Waterfalls, South Australia having a rest when this fella lands on a limb above me. The compositions are not the best as I had to perform contortions to get any sort of angle without scaring it off. Nevertheless I think they show off the plumage rather well. Taken with the DA* 300 plus DA 1.4X converter.

I finally put my hand in my pocket to purchase an HD DA 1.4X rear converter to use with my DA*300mm, having witnessed the excellent results with various lenses posted by other members of this forum. These are two of my first efforts taken in the wild - an Adelaide Rosella checking out the real estate and a couple of Galahs on the make.

Still getting the hang of my new DA*300mm but enjoying the process immensely. Here's a high-key B&W interpretation of a Great Egret in flight.

I've been an avid follower of this thread for some time without really having the means to participate (apart from the humble DA 55-300mm f4-5.8ED which I've used to practise some skills at the long end). However I now own a DA* 300mm f4. The attached image is my first effort out of the box - a simple static image of the very common Little Pied Cormorant.
