So that works out similar just without a lens and the extras then :)
I wonder if they'll be doing a bigger special around Christmas / Boxing day ... I could probably wait that long since I'll be going to Canada for Christmas!! ^_^

That KP is sooo tempting!! Basically new, and way cheaper then a K1 :)
Has the price of it changed much since they came out at the start of the year, $1700 actually seems pretty reasonable.

Hey everyone!

I've been a bit quiet for ages but yesterday I went up a certain part of the country and took a few photos.
Funnily enough I noticed that "nicer lenses" do actually have quite the impact on how the photos turns out ... kinda seems like both colours and exposures.

This was one of my first shots on the 12-24mm f4 lens on the trip, and it came out basically a stop brighter then my other two lenses besides the similar exposure settings.
The other lenses are 18-135mm and 50-300mm (the DA L version)

So yeah, just thought that was an interesting thing to note, since I only properly noticed it once I got home :)

Ahh well I'll still give it a go sometime when there's a new moon ... but yeah most of the links I found are just straight to that site.
I didn't do a big search though. But it'd have to be wayyyy better then photoshop for me to get used to using it often enough.

Still doesn't work sadly ... but I did notice Registax is on that list and I downloaded that recently, so maybe I'll have to give that a go :)

Haha yeah that's what I was trying to show off when merging the two files together ... because one blurrs the landscape it actually takes up more room then the other photo and when you go to remove the sky from the other exposure you get some of the underneath photo (brighter clouds in this case)
There'll probably be a way to work around it but that was just a quick few minutes to see what it'd look like :)

Haha excellent! Now make sure you have something to tilt the camera with. Say a phone, beanbag or maybe another lens if you get desperate.

I've finally had a good chance to use my new Astrotracer (thanks to Class A) and I like the results!
I kind of expected to be able to go a bit further, and easily hit 3 to 5 minute exposures, but it is easy to setup and calibrate so I'll just have to practice a little more :)

The hardest thing I'm probably going to find though is when merging files together the astrotracer one has a blurry edging on the landscape so if you've got clouds in the photos it gives you an artifact kind of look.
Pretty quick edit, and I'll tidy it up later, but it's an example from a 35mm

This is such a good idea! Might have to copy you on that one :)
Though I think I do a bit more then 10k a year, because my K5IIs is at 90,000 over 4 years worth ... might be getting close to needing a replacement.

Maybe got lucky, maybe not but we'll see :)

Ross MC 80-200mm f/4 | Trade Me

80-200mm for $1.50 ($5.50 with postage). And that's way cheaper then getting a 300mm from the states! ^^

Yeah that's true ... probably close to $300 for something nice but not to fancy.
The Rokinon 10mm f2.8 is on the marketplace for $225, and that could be good to replace my 12-24mm since I found out that's gonna cost $1k to fix :(

Yeah that's quite true! I got pretty decent at it a while ago with shorter teles, and even found when I had a film AF 70-210 sometimes it was just better to manual focus anyways :)

Since we're talking about lenses, what do you guys think of getting a 300mm f4.
Closest lenses are the 70mm ltd and 18-135 (but I'm finding that very hard to focus with at night ... often misfocusing without realizing)

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/24-photographic-equipment-sale/324310-sal...0mm-f-4-a.html

It's kinda silly though because it's 1kg and big, while most of the other lenses are the opposite :)
... still my friend showed me a 150-600 and damm 600mm is intense! :)

What is the compass used for anyway?
Besides the obvious of pointing you in the right direction, and the sea level

I should say for me it's a lot of money ... maybe if I stopped chasing lenses I could get that money ... either that or work another 10-15 hours a week.
I'm very happy with the K5IIs + Astrotracer at the moment, so anything above that is just going to destroy my innocence of good image quality and how good cameras can be :)

That K1 that went on TradeMe ended up selling for just over $2.9k, so I guess he didn't lose out too bad after all! ^^

And here's me thinking of going straight to a sandbag because I wouldn't have thought of that :)
Hopefully I'll remember that for next time I use that tripod .... though I rarely do, and maybe even less after that.

Oh that's a good idea! Though it doesn't have a hook so I'd have to try rig something up ... still it was my cheap tripod (because sand everywhere) so that's the main reason it fell over.

Yeah I'm really happy with the results so far, and actually surprised that there wasn't any trails ... couldn't get five minutes though because there were lots of clouds moving around last night.
I think it's all to do with if it suffered a major shock, but the lens came off the mount cleanly, so visually it looks like an easy fix -- ... Pentax is super durable at least ... no support but the camera lasts forever as well as the astrotracer :)

Oh yeah of course! That's what I'll end up doing later on when I actually start shooting, but I hadn't gotten a photo I was happy enough with to do that before the fall so it was all for testing purposes.

$4k for the K1?? Wow I think I'd rather wait two years then pay that much ... even if it is really amazing.

Well tonight was interesting ...
I brought Class A's astrotracer off him, and tonight was my first go with it. Actually seems way to easy to use so maybe I started off in a good spot, but the photo is a 3 minute (180 sec) photo at 15mm! -- And the moon's basically full so it's not ideal conditions, which means better photos next right?
The bad thing. There were random gusts of strong winds, and one of them knocked my tripod over, landing astrotracer first, lens second into the sand. -- Hopefully the 12-24mm is gonna be fine, but the mount separated from the lens :/

Do you find printing in A3+ is much better then A3?
I've only done A3 myself (got a 20pack and I'll probably finish it off then sell the printer) because the A3+s were soo much more expensive and frames were a lot harder to find as well.

Course they are bigger and probably prettier :)

I've only had experience with the Canon Pro 100 (an A3+ printer like GUBs probably), but if you get Canon paper that's listed as a profile it was basically dead on with what I saw.
It came with an export plugin for lightroom that shows you what the photo will look like with the paper and settings, and you can then tweak it from there. So as long as you're monitor is set to the right brightness it's spot on. (Mines at 25%, so in daytime it prints perfectly, but at night time the monitor looks far brighter)

I guess the other thing is if you only have a DSLR and that's it ... I'm finally down to one and my phone doesn't have a camera soo maybe that's a reason :)

But yeah probably just snap ... ehh looks good enough from the back of the camera/phone - post up and hope all goes well.

Is that to use them together as well? The Takumar I'm surprised at, but I guess bellows are pretty easy to get a decent prices :)

I'm not sure how, but I actually sold three Pentax items all in the first week of putting them on Trademe :)

The 10-17mm Fisheye, Sigma 24mm (which I'd be trying to sell for months ... maybe even half a year) and also the K100D
Of course with Transit and a few others watching every single one of those auctions :D

Oh yeah and big success fees of course .........

It seems to be mostly English speaking countries only, not much from China, India and Japan but heaps from the Americas
.... I didn't exactly take anything great, so wouldn't be a good rep for Auckland :)
