If you're needing the range for outdoor track type events in daylight conditions then I would 2nd Cayman's suggestion of a tele-converter. A 1.5x TC would bump your 75-300 up to 113-450mm and f/9.5 at the long end; which is probably fine given the lighting conditions. That would certainly be the budget minded approach anyway. The Kenko 1.5x TC goes for $87 new at Adorama.
