First snow of the season on the San Jacinto Mountains. Elevation 10,834ft. Taken from Palm Springs, elevation 487ft.
Auto Sears 300mm 5.6 prime. Handheld and processed a lot in lightroom. You can see the Xmas tree on top of the tram station in the center top of the ridge. Not bad for a $25 mint condition lens |

Yes, you input the focal length, and the camera knows what to do. To focus at infinity, I set the focus during the day on a distant object and put a small piece of removable tape across the focus ring to keep it all set. If it's an autofocus lens make sure the focus switch is set to Manual!!!

. ---------- Post added 29-09-14 at 11:57 AM ---------- No astrotracer or GPS-1. I believe it can work with any lens, because the cameras sensor is what tracks the stars, not the lens. It just uses the shake reduction technology to move the sensor slightly. The longest exp. I could get without having startrails was 3sec, so I'm sure it would help out here.

There's a super moon tonight, but 60 sec after I took this photo last night, the clouds moved in, and still haven't left. This was hand held with a Sears 300mm and K-30. F8 , 120sec, iso100. Processed in Lightroom. I'm going to set up the tripod and 2x teleconverter with the 300mm tonight and hope for the best. |

We've got quite a few of the American Kestrels around our area this time of year. Hoping to catch some hanging out in the Palm Trees for a more natural setting. 300mm Sears lens |

Great shots. Sometimes it's amazing what you can find, right in your own backyard.

K-30 with Sears 300mm f5.6. This guy was taking a break from the heat today (116 degrees). He was only 20 feet away, so it's just cropped on the sides. I really like this lens. |

They must have all flown to Palm Springs for the summer, because I see birds everywhere out here. Not so much today though..it's 116 degrees.

Some shots with my Auto Sears MC 300mm f5.6 (made by Tokina) and K-30. It takes f16 for it to be really sharp and minimize the CA, but my copy is mint and only cost $25, so I love it. I like the colors from this lens. It has a film era look to it. |
