If you are being arrested, I believe you must surrender identification to the LEO. I believe there was a US appelate court ruling on this a year ago (maybe a few years) and they ruled you could not withhold your identity in an effort to delay the judicial system.
If you are just talking about being questioned about your activity, I don't know what US or State laws govern that. But you are probably going to raise a lot more suspicion on the LEO's part if you deny your identity.
