Sadly this is going to be my last post here as I just replaced my aging K-30 (46300 clicks) with a brand new K-50. So this is the very last picture I took with it. It is a stack of 15 X 60 s exposures taken with a Sigma 105 mm F2.8 macro.

The K-30 and the astrotracer really are a great match. Two 90 s exposures blended in PSE 14.

A good night under the stars with the astrotracer!
1- California nebula and the Pleiades. 14 X 60 s iso 400 smc Pentax-A 50 mm f/1.4 @ f/1.8
2-Orion. Only 2 X 60 s! iso 400, smc Pentax-A 50 mm f/1.4 @ f/1.8
3- Andromeda galaxy, M33 and NGC 752 with a shooting star. 60s iso 400 with smc Pentax-A 50 mm
4- A small aurora with a shooting star. 13 s iso 3200 with Samyang 16 mm f/2.0 lens |

thanks! If I had a 18-35 mm F1.8, I think it would become my favorite combination with the astrotracer!

My favorite combination for astronomy: astrotracer + smc Pentax-A 50 mm F1.4.

Pano of 2 images, each image is a stack of 20 X 50s iso 800. I really like how that lens work on APS-C. Here it's opened at f/1.6 and the stars still look sharp!

A great pic! Dark sky, nice colours, no CA, no coma... The lens seems quite capable for a zoom! Did you consider getting the o-gps1? Imagine this frame with 3 min exposure...
Clear skies!

Rare occurence of a circumzenithal arc this evening! With a small part of the 46° halo (also very rare).
Kids called it the "Y" rainbow. |

Temperatures finally rose a bit around here. Can't believe this is the warmest winter on record! On March 12 I was able to get to my observing site with temperature around -10°C.
On my way there the sun was setting in a crystal clear blue sky promising a good night of observing.
With time to spare I took the liberty to snap this image.
I tested the DA* 50-135 on Orion at 115 mm f/3.5. Not easy to focus to infinity in the dark but very easy to accidentally undo it!
Just 4 min worth of subs at iso 2500 (tracked with O-GPS1) because distorsion of the lens prevents DeepSky Stacker to properly align stars on images that have shifted a bit.
So the 50-135 is not the perfect lens for astrowork but IQ is very very good for a zoom. |

Thanks black-kx! If you click on the image it will take you to my flickr page where you can see full exif. It was a DA* 50-135 mm. This was a -1 exposure compensation shot so the foreground was pretty dark. I selected the foreground with the quick selection and refine edge tools of Pse 11. Adjusted the levels of the foreground, then on the entire image a touch of Topaz denoise, clarity and detail. Adjusting the levels on the underexposed foreground skewed the color balance towards the blue so I removed some of it (but not all). Took no more than 5 min.
