I have a couple (one in particular) that are used to me following them around the pond and stream he frequents too. I love to watch and take pictures there. The Kingfishers there are another thing, they laugh at me as they stay just out of reach.

Ouch!
A Heron got a Catfish barb stuck in his tongue. He wasn't too bothered about it as he shook the fish off and swallowed him a few minutes later.:) |

I swung by the nest after work in the rain and caught some action. They seem alot more organized this year, so I'm thinking this is their second year together with a nest. The nest they had 2 years ago was destroyed by BG&E :( |

I was glad to finally get some blue sky yesterday to get afew shots of the Osprey couple that returned from last year. I hope they are quick to lay a couple eggs like last year so the power co. can't remove the nest. :)
They really like plastic for some reason:lol: |

Hey Dave,
The nest is the old fire whistle behind the fire house in the middle of town. Lucky for them there are new sirens and they don't use the old one now. It was a loud sucker and I used to live about 200 feet from it.

Very cool little Herons Dave! I hope they beef up that nest a little, it looks shakey, something like this maybe. I took this one Sat AM too so it was pretty gray out. |

I hope you get your k5 back soon Dave.:)
I never had much luck at 1600 iso on the k20d either, and the 50d I got to replace the 40d that broke is about the same. I try to keep the 50d to 800iso or below. It's not that great at 800iso either, I think the K20 is a little better actually. After I sold some stuff and I wanted to upgrade I was afraid to spend a lot on a 7D and risk not being happy with the IQ so I wound up with a used 1d mark iii and am happy at 1600iso but not much room for cropping so have to be more careful framing. It seems like every camera is some sort of compromise.:) ---------- Post added 02-22-11 at 09:56 PM ---------- Hope you all don't mind me sharing one from my canon rig, I thought it turned out pretty cool.:) (taken at 400mm with a 100-400mm) |

Nice hawk shot Dave!
On the ID, I would guess a Coopers, but they are so similar looking I think it's hard to tell. A birder I was talking to last week said a DNA test is needed to tell some of them apart (only half joking).

Very nice belrosevj ! I think you are lucky to have that sigma and too bad they don't still make it. I love my canon 400 f5.6 but no IS like the sigma on a pentax body. I'll bet they would sell a boatload in pentax mount if they re-released it.(I'd get one!) :)

Hey Bill,
The 140f worked on the 360B I had, though I used the 1.7x afa more on it for the auto focus. Maybe mine was older or something. Here is an old one with the 360B and 140F: |

Thanks smc, I really wish I still had the DA300 especially how good it was up close even. I always carry a camera when I go to work so I can take a walk after and see what is around and a small telephoto like the 300 f4 is perfect. I usually take the 100-400mm L with me now, not as sharp as the pentax, but goes to 400mm so it's a trade off.:)
Those Hummers are beautiful!!

I was using a canon 100-400mm (sorry :( ) I had the DA300mm and was very very happy with it, but if it missed focus it would take a long time to crank all the way to MFD and back out to refocus on k20 or k10. The sigma 100-300mm was very good too but then I like to use the AF button and to switch to MF you have to pull the focus ring back and forth to switch to MF (not full time like the DA). I wanted something longer too, the K500mm 4.5 was too hard to use, the adaptall 300mm f2.8 w/ 1.7x had too much fringing for my liking. After getting a FA*300mm f2.8 that turned out to be soft at distances more than about 30 feet (at any aperture) and pentax wouldn't fix it, I felt really let down. I was sure the lens just needed a little adjustment to the focus group, but they blew me off so I had to trade it at a loss as I didn't want a third party to screw up a new lens and further affect the resale value. I think a pentax FA400 f5.6 would be very nice, but they are rare. I think I would try a sigma 50-500mm if I was to get another long lens for my k20d. A nice 100-400mm 5.6 Pentax lens would make a lot of people very happy (a new TC too!). :)
