A shot taken with the preset (black) takumar 105mm 2.8 on a K-01 (no processing)

These takumars are such awesome lenses.

They are chalk and cheese. Completely different optical formula. The Auto-Tak is superior in every way bar one - its size (handling). But that is a small sacrifice.

I agree with this statement - my experience with this lens is almost identical. Despite its age (50 years old) it is an amazing lens. Yes, large and odd looking, but amazing.

This lens was extensively used in the music clip posted in this thread and the cinematographer really wanted it - he thought it was a magical lens. I suspect demand (which is already high) is only going to increase for this lens as more people see what it can do.

Oh, and you can take the front element off really easily (like a filter) and use the residual as a macro lens - amazing lens.

The cinematographer recommended the A7s for low light situations and the Black Magic for well light conditions. With some luck, I hope to recommend back to the cinematographer a Pentax FF camera with awesome video capabilities ... someday soon........ I wish

Hi all ;)

The other day I met a cinematographer interested in my Takumar collection. He grabbed my ST 24/3.5, SMC 35/2, Auto-Tak 35/2.3, ST 50/1.4 (eight element) and Tak 50/4 (1:1) and made a music video exclusively with these lenses (nothing else). A mix of cameras where used Sony 7s and Black Magic.

here is the link

You Tube

He loved the finish so much he bought the ST 50/1.4 (eight element) and we are negotiating on the ST24/3.5. But, he could not extract the Auto-Tak 35/2.3 from me ..... he really wanted that lens!

Goes to show that these old lenses can be of immense use in todays digital age.

Yes the hood would be good for improved contrast. I agree re: flares - quite resistant.

A shot recently with the Auto-Tak

very nice photos with the Auto Tak - that is a very interesting lens indeed. It has many characters and does require a knowledge of these to do good work (as exhibited above). Have you got the original hood for this lens? Perhaps that is worth seeking?
