They're using something called trigger trap which lets you control your camera from your phone. It costs less than an sd card at only $23! Need to get my hands on this!

Is there a cost effective way to do flash timing thing? I know that most of the pros who do shots like this for a living have a piece of gear that allows you to precisely time how many drops are released. If there is a better way to do these things i would be open to it, but im only working with d600, 2 lenes, and a metz speedlight. Only way i turned to the continuous fps is because that was really the only way i know of.

The water drop kit kit goes for $475

but like i said open to new ways of doing this!

Right, but i had everything set up before the shot. Was actually pretty impressive, i held the shutter button down and fired the gun with the other. Talk about one handed shooting. :D The only factor was whether the 5.5 fps would be fast enough to pull out something neat. Is it as reliable as a more advanced setup? Arguably no? But the unpredictibility here was what made it so interesting. Now, i defenitely plan to do more to this so i would like to get some better snazzier equipment for more of this stuff!

Right i know, ive been looking into something like this but atm, it just costs too much and i just wanted to see if i could pull this off another way :D Based on the results i got, it actually is pretty doable if you just burst the hell out of it but yeah, a flash setup would probably be simpler. Doing it this way really demands high speed burst shooting. I used a similar setup to do the "water droplets".

And they've gotten nothing but rave reviews dude.

Wow

In case you havent seen my flickr or portfolio, i do quite bit of other kinds of work. This was just was just something i decided to try one day. Curiosity is the mother of discovery right? What this boils down is what offers more flexability for the artists. You're not going to want to shoot your landscapes at 15 fps but there are times when it really comes in handy.

It is when you point of focus isnt changing. My whole point here and very much so one of the reasons why i love photography is being able to capture things that are too fast for the eye to see.

Eh focusing speed wasnt really critical here to be honest. I used manual focus :D What wold have really come in handy is focus peaking, something which nikon doesnt seem to want to include on their high end cameras, In the words of jason lanier, "wake up nikon why dont you do cool things like this??" The samsung nx1 is rumored to get af that rivals dslrs in an upcomming update. That is what is so awesome about mirrorless cameras. I dont think that there is anything fundamentally limiting mirrorless from having fast af. I think to this point it has really been about processing power. I mean, with a dslr, you have the light hitting a mirror which then goes to the af system whereas with a mirrorless system you have the light directly hitting the sensor. Niether one of these sounds really like it should be all that different. :D

The wonders of burst shooting! Now the d600 has only 5.5 fps. This is why i am so excited about the 10+ fps on mirrorless systems! Seen here is a bottle being a shot by a pellet gun. Velocity is around 800 fps and this was taken at a 1/1000th sec. My original goal was to capture the pellet mid flight but it still tuned out very cool!
