Atlanta Warbird Weekend 2016. P-40 Gathering
This one is a P-40K
Taken with K-3
ISO 200, 1/800, f9
The 16-85 is a great lens in these situations...when not zoomed to 16.
At 16 I saw some distortion I didn't like. This shot is at 31mm which incidentally comes to about that standard 50mm FF equivalent. |

This is why I love the K-3 combo with the 16-85.
Here is a shot zoomed all the way out to 85 *and* cropped significantly as well!

My family just got back from a great trip to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons.
The K-3 and 16-85 lens came with us, of course!
Here is one from a float trip down the Snake River. I had a CPL attached and that help with a more vivid shot.
I still love this lens! |

Nice photo.
I concur, the 16-85 is pretty much my favorite lens.
Versatile range and great image quality.
My kit 18-55 lens is just collecting dust now!

I took this with my K-3 in East Africa last week. Great trip.
Most of the trip was looking at all the animals and I had the new 55-300 attached to K-3 most of the time.
For this shot I used the 16-85 and it has a circular polarizer still on it. I left it on due to all the dust.
This was a challenge to meter so I just did a 5 shot bracket and put it through Photomatix Pro.
I like how it turned out! |

This is a three shot HDR which made the colors deeper...but it's the colors that make me like this plane! IMGP4754_5_6.jpg |

Yes it is a Curtiss P-40!
There were five of them here in Atlanta for Warbird Weekend last month.
It was a gathering to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the American Volunteer Group aka "Flying Tigers".
It was a great day to exercise my Pentax and be around my favorite airplane.

Cool!
The chuch is gone after the flooding in 2008 so only one building remains....
I here Texas will be closing that down due to safety concerns... ---------- Post added 09-21-16 at 03:23 PM ---------- I have a very similar shot as you but due to cloudy conditions, I had to do HDR IMGP3399_400_401.jpg by Vince Mokry, on Flickr

My last shot from West Texas trip last March. It was at the abandoned movie set for "El Contrabando".
This is located near Lajitas, Texas. Mexico on far side of Rio Grande, of course.
Took this with a K-3 and it is a three shot HDR performed with Photomatix LR plugin IMGP3420_1_2.jpg by Vince Mokry, on Flickr

GSiGuy,
I don't have the 16-50 so you may need help from someone that has shot with both...
...but, I really like the IQ of my 16-85. See the P-51D mustang photo above! It is my favorite lens right now and even though I fell and it hit a rock, it still take sharp photos!
The extra reach of 85mm is great. No, it is not a fast lens as far as aperture, but a camera like the K-3 does great at higher ISO anyway.
Good luck

My copy was doing that. I did have a fall with it on New Years Day and thought maybe I damaged it. However, I just used this lens on a weekend trip and the zoom ring is smoother now after lots of shooting on that trip. ---------- Post added 03-29-16 at 12:56 AM ---------- This is four shots seamed together with PT Gui software. Awesome! Did you crop the one inside the church at all? That's pretty good depth of field!
