I got my Rikenon XR 50mm f/1.4 back - clean and with the aperture lever working again. I had given it away to a forum member (along with 3-4 other lenses) so he could practice cleaning lenses, and he put most of those back for sale and I bought this back for a really good deal :)

I absolutely don't need this lens... any of my 50s is technically better - especially the K 50 1.2 and what might be my most perfect 50, the Rikenon P 50 1.4... but nothing has the bokeh this lens has, and I guess it just brings back good memories... it was my most used lens on the K20D days.

Here it is on the k200D where it's quite hard to focus. I should be using it with the other cameras that have a proper pentaprism.

This is a tribute to pepperberryfarm and his classic "two chairs" scene... This XR 50 also gives a bit more of a 3D effect at apertures like f2.8, than most lenses.

At f4 it's as sharp as any 50, from my tests back in the day with the K20D. This is at f4.

Slightly swirly bokeh wide open

I'm amazed at those TTArtisan lenses. This is another lovely lens. I think I like them even better than Fuji's own lenses (with some exceptions, the 56mm f/1.2 is basically unbeatable for a portrait APS-C lens...)

How are they in use? Easy enough to use with the Fujifilm bodies? I notice the aperture is where the focus ring would be in Pentax cameras...

These are all for Fuji APS-C, aren't they?

They actually do fall into the traditional focal lengths...

The typical APS-C "crop factor" is usually 1.52 or 1.53. I think the newer Sony sensors are all 1.52.

23mm * 1.52 = 34.96, basically a perfect 35mm FF-equiv lens...

The 27mm becomes 41mm FF-equiv, which is actually a bit odd, but I think they were trying to create a 40mm FF-equiv pancake.

25mm * 1.52 is a perfect 38mm FF-equiv lens... 38mm was popular for point and shoot film cameras, and a lot of early digital point and shoots were 38mm at its widest setting. I have a Ricoh film point and shoot with a 38mm lens (unfortunately, broken...)

33mm is closer to 50mm FF-equiv than 35mm, which is why Fuji moved to that focal length to replace its 35mm f1.4.

Finally, 56mm * 1.52 is the closest to 85mm FF-equiv.

Yup.

Honestly, I don't think it renders that differently from the A version. A might have a bit more contrast and slightly bolder colors. K and A lenses, I find, render a bit more naturally in color. But if the A version was clearly not staying in your collection, I highly doubt that the K will... but I guess the fun part is trying it :)

Be mindful that there were two versions of the K 50 1.2 - the one I have is from the "M" era but obviously couldn't be called an M lens as it is still quite large. You can tell by the reflections that the coatings are different, and the outside of the lens and especially the beauty ring are quite different as well. I suspect they are very similar in handling but as I said I "only" have the M-era version (which I call the V2).

Is the Cosina the reason you are selling the Porst? :)

The Cosina does seem sharper but the Porst has a beautiful rendering. I'd find it hard to pick one above the other... but if pressured to do so, I think I'd pick the Cosina as well.

That sucks because they're not that sharp wide open, though the bokeh is always interesting...

Indeed, the rendering of the 55mm lens was quite unique, with fantastic bokeh. I miss my K 55mm f2 (same lens design) that developed a bit of balsam separation so I donated it to someone who wanted it to practice fixing lenses.

Another lens I miss is the Rikenon/Sears 50mm f/1.7... small plastic thing but it was well built. Not quite sure why I sold the one I had!

I've probably seen thousands of your shots by now, and this is certainly one of the very best. Amazing capture.

And no further PP? You're certainly getting great results... of course that has a lot to do with what's behind the viewfinder :)

Bold, yet very pleasing! What are your favorite settings at this point, if I may ask? I haven't explored the K10D jpeg engine other than trying it out for maybe 15 minutes at some point...

I was not expecting it to be this good. Probably better than K 55 1.8. Tomioka design? M42 mount?

Does that mean... (gulp) that you're shooting RAW now?...

That A 28 2.8 is bringing out some really nice pictures... and the Bokina is hitting the sweet spot lately hasn't it?

I like how these ended up looking like paintings. And I like that you didn't lift the shadows, letting the sunset colors stand out.

Here you have the 3 versions (V3 is just the gold version of the V2) and their year of release: K 50/1.2 | The K-Mount Page

This is the V1. Notice the K series lettering. Coatings have that more purple-ish K series reflection, like my K 55mm f2 lens that I used to own. It says 1:1.2/50.

And this is the V2, the one I have. Notice the blue-ish cast in the reflections was added to the purple. This is more like my M series lenses. Also, the font and writing are just like in the M series. It says 1:1.2 50mm.

I ended up sending 3 lenses to Eric Hendrickson. He charges about 70 dollars for those older manual focus primes. I looked around for quite a bit for something cheaper, so that I could clean more lenses, but gave up and just sent 3 to Eric and gave away 4 to a forum user who is practicing on fixing/cleaning the lenses, and he was quite happy to work on those.

Sorry, it's the K 50 1.2, not 55... that was a typo, I'll fix the previous post... basically the same optics as the A 50 1.2 that you used to have, but with the older coatings. Mine is actually the 2nd version, from the M era (but still not called an M because it's not a small lens). Supposedly it has M-era coatings, but I can't verify.

My K 50 1.2 is back to me from cleaning and even better than I remember... these pictures were not sharpened in any way, though they were taken on a lower resolution camera (K200D). Wide open at F1.2.

I think it's the lower contrast/higher saturation combination that's throwing me off. A bit unlike other Pentax lenses where that combination is usually just right. You are right, I need more time with it.

So far the jury is out on the SMC-A 50mm f/2.8 Macro.

At macro distances, it doesn't seem as sharp as I hoped. It could be technique, but I didn't have issues with my DA 35 Limited Macro even at 1:1, and my SMC-M 50mm f/4 Macro at MFD also came out much better than what I was seeing in the viewfinder.

Another issue is that if the subject is sun-lit, the contrast seems to go down, and the white balance tends to be a bit warm for my taste. Both fixable in PP but not quite the same as getting the shot SOOC. But in general, saturation is quite high while contrast is relatively low. I've put a flash light inside the lens and can't see any haze and only a normal amount of dust. The glass seems pretty clean.

Bokeh is a bit busier than I hoped for at medium distances. DA 35 Limited Macro is better in that regard, and I think SMC-M 50mm f4 Macro bokeh was more neutral.

I have to give this lens a bit more effort, and use it with my newer cameras as well, to see what I get from it.

A very tiny rose at MFD. K200D and SMC-A 50mm f/2.8 at f8.

Pretty sharp a bit further away. Here with K200D and bounced flash by AF280T.

Rumor has it that this lens is so good, that Mr. Masakazu Saori designed the DA 70 Limited based on that design.

Best rig? These are very nice but I might say (and this is totally personal preference) that your 645D and even A350 flowers looked nicer, had nicer colors...
