I have to say that this combination of lens and camera makes for some really pleasing colors...

Sharpness can have a lot to do with the RAW conversion... in Darktable and RawTherapee you can pick the demosaic'ing algorithm. Make sure you are using AMaZe or a similar high quality, no-compromise algorithm. It makes a lot of difference, especially with these older cameras where the pixels are bigger (and there's less of them).

Geez, how many cameras have you got??

This one's interesting... people think the K-3 III is expensive but the D60 cost the equivalent of US$2,700.00 ($2,199 inflation corrected) back in 2002...

Now you can buy it for 50 bucks.

There's something idyllic and almost nostalgic about the look of the 6MP sensor.

I need to stop looking at this thread, I already have 6 cameras and usually only leave 2 out at a time in my home office - my wife likes "minimalism" and gets irritated by redundancy....

...but a 6MP Pentax is so tempting..........

To my eyes, your Takumar 28 seems to yield nicer than the M28 2.8, but I also see you have been using the latter a bit more...

Nice pictures either way!

Lovely results. Thanks for sharing the picture and your process flow.

It does make sense to have a 6MP camera for these big panoramas. I did a few panoramas with my K20D back a few years ago including some 20+ pictures. It was massive and I'm surprised my computer even was able to handle the file size...

I hope you'll share some images with us, I'd love to see what you are getting with your K100D panoramas :)

I never used Hugin - it seemed a bit complex when I read about it. I chose Microsoft ICE instead (Image Composite Editor) - it's also free and has always worked well for me. Super-easy to use, too.

Everything about this picture... the house with that front porch, the fence, the unpaved driveway and of course the car, send you back a few decades... great picture.

You guys are going to make me buy a 6MP camera at some point... like I need a new body! In fact, any new body will have to probably be kept in drawers most of the time...

And by the way - shooting 6MP is actually very smart. Ken Rockwell (yeah that guy...) - when he's not writing up stuff sucking up to all the latest and greatest so he can make money off links from his website, every blue moon he writes articles telling some truths, and this is one of them: https://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/pixel-dumping.htm (basically, 6MP really is all you need...)

(Another one of those once-in-a-blue-moon articles telling the truth is one where he describes what a Leica shooter really is like... it's hillarious... but most of the time he sucks up to them - gotta get those huge referrals...)

So at the K10D Club we have been talking about creating an All CCD Sensors thread. Would that interfere with the enjoyment of this particular club? I could create a 10MP CCD Club if the 6MP crowd would rather keep this more exclusively for the 6MP sensor cameras.

I think the All-CCD or the 10MP CCD would be a new thread, not replacing any Clubs...

They're supposed to be good in the middle of the range, a bit soft at 28-35mm, and not too bad at 105mm. And the A7II isn't quite as demanding - pixel size is more like the K10D. I think you'll like the results.

I am always impressed with the results from that lens... I had been looking for one for months now. It has the premium ghostless coatings and was sort of a premium optics middle-of-the-road lens, despite the plastic build. Sort of like the predecessor to the DA 16-45 I guess, but the same philosophy - unexpectedly good optics in a cheaply built lens. Also like the DA 35 2.4 I guess  Anyway! Just gave up looking for one and bought a bunch of accessories instead with the money. It seems like people stick with them and don't sell them. The only one available in the last few months on ebay had fungus in it. The other one was waaaay overpriced. Oh and there was one in the mmarketplace that I missed out on, that one would have been perfect for me, it was black like yours

Congrats, that seems like a great combo to have! Color me jealous.

Ah, good to know. I think I'd want the DS then, for the SD card. Or the DS2 but these seem hard to find. I don't use fancy fatures, if it has an M setting and a good viewfinder I'm good to go :)

Do you know the capacity for the SD cards that The DS and DS2 can support? Up to 16GB like the K10D, or less?

There's an *istDL now on Ebay for 60 dollars shipped - with 18-55mm lens! The only thing wrong with it according to the seller is that the flash doesn't work. Meh, I don't use onboard flash :) So tempting.... but those viewfinders are tiny, smaller than the K-r/K-x, right?

I remember reading that while the Samsung GX cameras had identical hardware to the Pentax equivalents (and were made by Pentax), Samsung used their own JPEG engine. So if you shoot JPEG I would look for a Pentax model. *istDLs can be found for 60 dollars on Ebay.

If I get one of the 6MP cameras it will be an *istD for the better viewfinder. I've considered one for a while, to give to my older son who currently uses my RZ18 - he's 8 years old so I'm waiting for him to grow a bit more before handing him a DSLR. But maybe I could get it sooner and test drive it for a year or two... ;)
