Poll: What should the next Pentax Full Frame be?

Well, they can still do that, and improve on other aspects as well. It shouldn't be either/or. In fact, the K-1 mark II improved the AF algorithms and should been seen as a good step forward with a clear focus to keep improving the image quality. I fear however that all the noise of "this upgrade wasn't enough!" will make them change focus a bit (no pun intended...), but I agree with you, IQ needs to be #1 and then they should continue to improve the AF, FPS and video as a consequence of new processors becoming available with more processing power and enhancements already built in for those areas.

Yes, there are others who think like you... in fact, what you describe is the third place option in this poll, right behind the higher-megapixel-supercamera :)

Interesting, the "improved K-1" seems to be pulling clear of the other options!

Ok maybe you have a point, but I saw it as criticism masked as a joke, and I guess I too have the right to have an opinion about it... as long as it's done respectfully, which I think I was.

surfar, I know you're a great Fuji fan, and that's great because Fuji does have a great system and fantastic lens for those who can afford the system.

But is making fun of Pentax for having only one line of FF cameras really necessary?

How did you know that this was my setup? You must be a clairvoyant!!

No, I don't have a 4K monitor yet and I don't print larger than 11x14. Though I have to say I have seen larger prints (don't remember size, 14x20 I think) that came from a D700 (12MP) that looked amazing. According to an article on the Circle of Confusion, the human eye can't distinguish more than 127 lines per inch anyway (5 lines per milimiter at a distance of 25cm) ... assuming a line is a color, that's 254DPI. So 300DPI has long been considered the standard that the human eye can distinguish even when pixel peeping.

And I think 4K is great but 8K is probably overkill for video because when you look at a whole picture at once, you can't see all the detail that is being shown. Only if you pixel peep on a corner your TV, so I see that in the near future, video artists will be replaced by video pixel peepers... God help us...

Those are all good points... If Ricoh wants to cater to pros, just by going to 24MP they would increase the FPS automatically bu 50% at least. And with a new processor, even more. Then with improvements to AF and other refinements, it would make a very solid camera for pros!
I am among those who think 24MP is all I'd ever need.

I can understand that some might need that, but honestly, I can crop a K10D picture (10MP) down to 4MP and it still looks pretty good on my monitor :)

I think this is a good point - a lot of people would like a retro full frame, but how many people would actually buy it? I think anyone who votes for it (or for any option) should say whether they'd buy it or not.Which is why I think they should refine the current 36MP camera with the current great lay-out, and add a killer AF system and good video features for those who need it, even if it means a newer version of the 36MP sensor. Sony has been releasing 24MP cameras for ages, and they are still doing so very successfully, so I think a move to a higher resolution sensor is neither required nor really needed at this point.

When Honda put a 2nd motor and a battery on the Accord, they didn't give it a new name, they called it the Accord Hybrid. It was a new variation of the same car, same as I see the K-1 II. It's got the same controls and features, just refined by the addition of a 2nd processor.
I think Ricoh thinks the same since they did call it the K-1 II...

Well the question is what you think Pentax/Ricoh should release next, even if you point out that you wouldn't buy it because you're still happy with the one you have :)
I don't even have a FF (yet, wait until the giveaways ), but I can have an opinion of what I would like to see them release...

So now that the K-1 II has been out for a while, and it's basically still the same camera with some improvements, what should the next Pentax full frame camera be?
And why?
