totally agree...
what i really would wish for (as most people will) is a WR Q Body with according lenses... AND a floppy screen would be cool too. sensor can be the same as it is in the Q7 + wifi, nfc, gps and an optional EVF that one could mount on the hotshoe. ... i would buy it even if it is 399 Body only... but at the moment... honestly, when i look at the price tag of the Q7 i don't really know how it qualifies to be 399€ body only. It is a good camera. you can get very pretty results with it, but at the moment i would prefer a Olympus XZ-1/XZ-2, Fuji X20/X30, Sony RX-100/RX-100M2 or some other compact with a 1/1.7" or bigger sensor over it.
But as there is the color and fun factor... i guess i will buy me a Q one time in the future... at least i expect a WR Body....I guess it would even sell very well in Europe, when it comes with a TOY equivalent of the new "DA 18-50mm DC WR". (but with a focal length equivalent to "35-90mm" or so...)
So one would have the FIRST SMALL and (hopefully) affordable ILC which would be indeed a replacement for a WR compact as there is REALLY no weathersealed digital compact with extractable (out of the body) - and therefore most likely better - optics.
AFAIK the market only offers 2 options - buy a brick with a hole in it, or buy a bulky bridge-camera from Fuji and you have a weathersealed camera for under 600bucks...that is something alike a digital compact camera but it is not.
Because as far as im concerned, a good digital compact has extractable optics. and a Bridge Camera is called Bridge camera because it is a bridge between compact cameras and DSLR/ILC.
If Pentax has a WR sealed version of let's say a MX-1 in some drawer... a WGMX-1 or an MX-2 for instance, they should open this drawer now or make a WR version of the Pentax Q. Which would indeed be a replacement for a WR compact (if it comes with the according lens).

the K-3II bodys functions, normal Q size, WR, flippy screen, thank you. I will buy it. :) EVF to pop on the hotshoe would be cool too. :D

OK, i admit those comparisons with car brands are a bit lame.
Maybe we are the LOTUS in photography? :D
But if you meant that we dont belong to the top with our brand, than you are some kind of wrong.
One of the highest regarded museums/photo auction house(real life) about photography and photography equipment shows a huge PENTAX collection next to other icons of the photo business like Leica.

Take a Pentax 67, an LX, an MZ-S, or a 645Z, a K-5II(s) or even an old Spotmatic use it for a week and then reconsider your statement.
There would be more to it, but let me pick out only 2 points.(i could go through more points but A and B will have to do for you) :cool:
A) We invented AF. it is a fact that Pentax in first introduced the AF *laughter* (ok it wasnt that precise, so it disappeared from the market) :)
B) Decent IQ at ISO 12.800 on an APS-C DSLR A.D. 2010? anyone else... let me see...
OK, maybe we can not effort as much product placements like the "Double Team" and we sure arent capable of investing the same money on buying competitors out in test results.
But that is not what it is about. This thread is about the future of the Q System.
So:
According to an interview with Mr. Kazunobu Saiki and Mr. Shigeru Wakashiro we may see an EVF(maybe optional for the hotshoe) in some future Q.
And i tested a Q10 and the only things i really missed were WR and Astrotracer.
Sure i also would like to see AF during video with the option for predefined follow focus points, NFC+Wlan, and so on.... but WR and Astrotracer will do for me.
so get it on, my K-mount adapter is waiting for its mission.
i would love to read more suggestions and feature requests and less... let's call em "flaming words" ;)

Another reason for beeing optimistic and hope for at least a WR Q.
But i will be amused about the next post that says something like:
"No sir. No i don't want set of Michelin winter tires for free with my new Audi A1. I'll rather crash into those road signs; Because i don't want to ruin the Audi Company. But thank you for your offer sir. "

That is exactly that BELIEF of yours that i wanted to point other users to. BELIEF... That is not how it is in REALITY.

I also dont know everything but if i know one thing, it is the fact that you can hear this very sentence from everybody in consumerland.
That is a "focused" MISINFORMATION.(sry for the bad transl. /no native tongue)
The oh so expensive CPU and everything else in the PS3 is garbage. They take it off from wafers they use for producing the CPUs for blade servers and if you will do a hardware check, you will realize that up to 2 SPUs at least are DEAD. CaPUTO!! The 1st version maybe had cpus that were quite OK so nobody checks out the trick.
They also make money from the consoles... MUCH MONEY.
And dont point at marges of some company. Forget it... useless. If political networkers can make millions disappear; What do you think a bunch of hardcore economists can do???
I did not compare the cameras. It was about the thinking process, your brain has to be capable of, when you take your camera outside and take photographs in the rain. Where is the difference?
OK again. S l o w l y just for sapporodan:
When you go outside, for example with a KS-2 and you mount a non WR lens. It will go CAPUT(if you are unlucky)!
That is the EXACTLY the same for the Pentax Q.
Where do you know that from? How much are they? 10, 100, maybe only just 1000! Maybe it is only one. And HE, the lonely Pentax-Ranger is in response for making the world better... And yes watch out Pentax-Ranger! Dont buy to much silicone rings and fit them into your cameras, or you can not effort the bullets anymore and Wild Bill Canon and Jessie Nikon will shoot you down.
And another question for you: "When the Q is not popular outside Asia, why are all those colored Qs sold out so often?" Do Asians have some strong superstition which makes them believe that only a Pentax Q that is sent from Europe back to Asia will bring them luck and a long life.
So one last time: Please stop spreading that "I-am-the-only-Pentax-User-in-the-World-ANGST" No you are not. There are many of them out there.

NO. Simple no. Wrong. Weathersealing the q7 wouldn't(shouldn't) raise the price more than it already is.
I don't want to insult you, but let me ask you a question?
Are you one of those guys that believed in the rumors spread by Sony, that they are selling their PS3 at self cost? Do you really believe that the iPhone-Production costs more than 15% over a mere noName-Smartphone?
Are you aware of the fact that you were able to order your Q7 in a dozens of colors?
Why did this not raise the price?
AND:
A weather resistant Q would be a whole other thing than a water- or better: dive-proof Nikon AW 1.
And just because You are not willing or able to effort ONE additional weather resistant Kit-Zoom lens for your Q System, do you think nobody else will?
I think most of the other consumers don't care about that.
Next:
Your example isn't very good also because;
That also would go for a PENTAX KS-2.
Why doesn't everybody go out into the rain with his K-S2 and a non-WR Kit-lens mounted on it?
Because we have brains.
People just dont like it when you are denying their ability to calculate 1+1.
And i don't think about the Pentax userbase as a bunch of flippant tag-alongs, who buy their cameras according to the TV-Series they are watching.

There are little mirrors that double as a protection. You can buy one of those if you have problems getting nice views on the street.
not that i want to nag at you, but this "realism" nearly killed the FF.
i could live with Weather-Resistant.
Besides that, the real upgrade will be the option for an EVF on the next Q. The Pentax Double Team(you know those 2 guys where one has got this mark in has face) once stated that this would be kinda great idea for the next generation of the Q. So i guess this will be next on the menu.
And i have a very good feelings when i think about NFC+Wlan. I hope this will get standard for all the Pentax-Products. K-S1 has WLAN at least. the WG-M1 has wlan. The K-S2 has WLAN and NFC...

A flippy screen is the only thing i do not feel any need for.
But I am sure many pentaxians appreciate your optimistic visions. Of really no progress.

IMHO the next Q has got to have:
WR Body and an according WR short Kit-Zoom-Lens with 1.9-2.8
(magnesium alloy)
Support for O-GPS1 Device + Astrotracer function
WIFI+NFC
High-Speed Burst Mode
Built in GPS
+all the features from the Q-S1
And yes we need some other design for the body. I also think the Q-S1 is some kind of ugly. Some may find it looks nice but you can be assured it is not a beauty contest winner.
