Nice catch Norm! That is an impressive moth! I hope all is well in Algonquin. Three times as many chances and I've seen 2 over the past 5 years! I remember seeing them much more frequently as a child. Herbicides perhaps?....or maybe the lunas are hanging out wherever all of the honey bees went...?

I don't have the opportunity to see a Luna Moth very often, once a year if I'm lucky. I was lucky enough to notice this one in the bushes at the end of my driveway as I parked one night. I had to leave my car lights on to have any chance of seeing him, much less taking a picture of him. I set the ISO at 12800 and hoped for the best. After some heavy handed editing this is what I ended up with--I still can't get over how good the high iso capabilities of the modern pentax cameras are. K70 with tam 90.

Thanks for the correction--no wonder I didn't find anything when I searched on moths. I'm grateful for the many intelligent folks here on PF!

forgot to add this one...I really struggled trying to catch focus with these tiny moths. Too much coffee (shakes) ?....too much wine the night before(shakes) ? or just too dang tiny?

I'm pretty sure this was the first one that I've ever seen. I was lucky enough to see it on my pecan tree as I was doing some yardwork.
