When buying lenses think long term. Wait and save up if you can't afford at the moment but buy the right stuff.
Tamron 17-50 is best (If you find a good copy and that is a big IF)
DA 16-85 would be the next in terms of FL you are looking for.
DA 18-135 would be a choice as it is a very versatile focal length.
I am surprised DA*16-50 isn't mentioned by anyone. This lens is superior to the options you are considering or have been put up so far by people. There are reviews about Tamron being the best sharpest and all that (If you find a good copy) but Pentax DA* 16-50 or any other Pentax lens for that matter .. their rendering and contrast is second to none obviously better than Tamrons. Now people can argue over sharpness but Pentax lenses are no slouch.
On second thoughts DA18-55 is also the best kit lens between all the camera manufacturers in case you did not know. I would say if you are not ready to make the investment in long term glass get a manual flash for bounced use and start using the 18-55 @f5.6 or f6.7 for the indoor shots you plan to take. You will be surprised how good this lens actually is. I have several shots take with this lens with a bounce flash that I cannot tell them apart from the Tamron lens unless I am pixel peeping.
The other thing worth noting about the K-X is that its LCD is crappy and does not quiet represent the actual quality of the image you are making. So double check that that is not the soul reason behind this lens purchase. See them on the computer and you may not need to upgrade just yet if you chose to go for bounced flash use and keeping your 18-55. K-X does produce beautiful images (although they look crappy on the LCD) even with the 18-55 when that lens is stopped down to 5.6 or 6.7.
