Yeah, just picked up mine from DCW Northcote. The guy I was dealing with expressed some affection for Pentax, having once been an *ist owner. He shoots Sony currently, but I can't hold that against him. :-)
Went with four year warranty extended on top of the standard two, six years all up for $139. This is a v1 product, after all!

DCW just told me their pre-orders are expected to arrive at their warehouse on Friday, they'll distribute after that.

So, you'd rather sabotage a very rare attempt at brand marketing? CRK even told people they were going to try to reach out to retailers on this one, a sort of fence-mending exercise.
Sometimes I think we Pentaxians are our own worst enemy. ☺

Our official release date is just one week after the United States.
One of the most popular threads in these forums is 'Why I Will Not Buy a K-3', inspired by the pettiness of the OP who declared he wouldn't purchase what was at that time probably the best APS-C camera in the world ... if it had a Ricoh label on it. The thread is now a daily repository of satire.
Good that it won't happen here, everyone has a sense of proportion about life. We have jobs, family, this is just a hobby, and hobbies are meant to be fun. ☺

I also think it's unlikely something happens to a lens, Rob, more that it comes out of the factory a dud, as Roger Cicala has found even of Canon L Series glass.
Then you have to send it back to NY for warranty!

Yeah, I just pre-ordered with Digital Camera Warehouse, Wiz. I did try to back a suburban B&M by ringing Kirk's. The guy was polite but not interested in an offer of $2700 or even price matching DCW's $2799.
It's a shame, but that's business.

Correct. The importer can't act as a competitor with the retailers it's meant to be supplying. That's probably in their contract with Ricoh.

Traditionally, you award a contract to a company to be the importer for their country. The B&Ms source from them. You insist that the company cannot compete with the retailers, otherwise you p... them all off. Remember these retailers, like Digital Camera Warehouse or Ted's, have online shops, too.
So, people I think were off-base when they complained that they could get similar pricing to America from their B&M, but not from CRK. That's how it should be. The stores are forced to buy from CRK in order to qualify for manufacturer's warranty, it's not fair on them to be undercut by the supplier selling direct to the public.
CRK do maintain an eBay presence that I've used, but it looks to me like it's limited both in the exact products it sells and how many are available for purchase.
We've all read some members saying B&Ms need to be encouraged, and others saying that in this Amazon era the relationship should go the way of the dodo.
BTW, Malcolm Kennedy actually joined this forum and posted yesterday to shut down the rumour that CRK was changing ownership. I think it would be unwise of him to comment on issues involving other companies, though.

Yeah, I'm sure Tokyo takes a dim view of destroying what's left of the relationship with the B&Ms. TBH, I would have thought undercutting the retailers would be explicitly banned by their contract with Ricoh. Perhaps there are exceptions permitted by their eBay section.
Your calculations are very good, Bossa, and show there's almost no saving buying from B&H in USD, adding postage and paying GST ourselves ... and without local warranty!

Hmm ... isn't the purpose of the wholesaler to sell to the retailers, not compete with them?
And there is a store which has offered similar to the US price, adjusted for exchange rate plus GST.
Big bucks, no doubt, my brothers, but look at the price of the long established D810, even from JB HiFi.
