Denial or truth?

It will happen, but it may be another sensor size first, as one of the interviews showed.

But like the release of the K-1, it will only be when market conditions are right and suit Ricoh's setup.

I would hope, like the others who've posted here, that it contained some Pentax special sauce, that it wouldn't be a me-too product. There is already a Canon RP and a Sony A7 III and a Nikon Z, etc. If I wanted one of those, I can buy one now.

I think its one of the main editors for the Phoblographer website who announced on the Pentaxians FB feed that after reviewing the K-1 he now owns one, BTW. This of course would make no sense to Trickortreat, but great products do that.

Sure, once we understand such individuals exist, the logic suddenly makes sense. Not to one of the three big dinosaurs duking it out for share in a shrinking market, but to a minnow quietly doing its thing while drama happens all round.

I just read we have a forum member named Belpe who during the fad went off and bought a Fujifilm XT3 , he's just returned and bought a K-1 to go with it, and is ordering a huge DFA 15-30mm f2.8 as well! :)

One, they have the research, you don't. Japanese executives are not grandstanders like Elon Musk, it's a different culture, they're very careful, very deliberate in what they say. When the Canon exec said the camera industry is in for sales slaughter in the next few years, he meant it and would have the studies to back his statement up.

Two, you should read the interview. Because 'flock' is not what the guy said.

He said he thinks some people will buy another DSLR even if only to run both systems. That's already true of Dericali in this thread, he's said that. It's also true of me. I owned an A7, then bought a K-1. The A7 now spends most of its time sitting in a cupboard.

Normhead rightfully admires the D850, it's better than the Nikon Z mirrorless derived from it, as the Canon 5D Mk IV is better than the EOS R derived from it. No wonder those products have had disappointing financial returns.

I'm glad we agree on something, Trickortreat! ;D

Maybe they sold very few cameras but lots of lenses, Trickortreat … you don't know!

The executives do, and they decide what happens, not you.

Again, you are completely guessing, the executives have this data and use it to make strategy, while you have absolutely no idea.

None of the camera divisions - Canon, Panasonic, Nikon - release individual model sales even to their shareholders, let alone you!

Fuji may be kept going by its Instax film camera sales.

They will have serious market research that you don't have, Trickortreat.

They were the only camera company we know about that increased its sales last quarter. The big boys who went mirrorless - Canon and Nikon - went into decline, as did Sony.

Perhaps the Ricoh executives know how to do their job … get a tiny marketshare business (less than 2 percent?) through a big downturn in the industry.

This is exactly what the Ricoh executive suggested some would do, Dericali … and everyone at PetaPixel, DPR, etc is laughing.

Whoa!

They didn't say that, read that interview again and all the previous interviews with Ricoh execs on the topic.

They're studying the market (this will include the disappointing Nikon and Canon FF mirrorless releases).

They will watch carefully. They don't know whether APS-C or FF or MF would be the first Pentax return to mirrorless. Until they've observed what happens to everyone else, there aren't 'concrete' plans.
