That's fair since spiders are not insects but belong to a completely different class (Arachnida) :)

Thank you Mette! I understand that shooting handheld with a long lens weighting over 3 kg is not for everyone. If you add the K-1 plus the grip I think we talk abou roughly 5 kg. The good thing is that I find the Pentax SR of the K-1 (and the KP I used recently) to be exceptionally good with the DA 560! I can shoot with SS of 1/125 with more keepers than frames with motion/shake blur which is quite impressive.

The DA* 300 is superb lens, but doesn't fit my style and types of photography much. I would love if Pentax released a great DFA* 300/2.8 with 2 FF TCs. That might (might) be easier to handle and give about the same reach with the DA 560 although I wouldn't expect the IQ to be at the 560 level...

The Sigma 500/4.5 is a lens I would love to shoot with but couldn't find one to buy. We are also quite far away to try it one day and let you try the DA 560

Anyway I'm mostly covered when it comes to equipment and only a tele lens that will give me the ability to shoot at low light is what would tempt me in the future

Great image! I love how thin the DOF is with the 300/4 while the IQ remains excellent!

 I also use a neck strap that I cross over my shoulder and this is how I carry around the beast, just grapping the lens foot to prevent it from hitting on my hip as I walk. I lift it only when I shoot and I'm trying to sit down and rest the lens on my knee when It is possible to shoot this way - far more stable.
I'm not getting my excercise lately and today one day after using this combo for that long my body (mainly my arms) remind me that I should start excercise again otherwise I will have problems shooting handheld while being stable enough in the future :D

Thank you my friend! The shot was handheld. I walked around a park yesterday for about 4 hours carrying this combo and the difference between carrying the K-1 + grip & DA 560 and the KP + TC & DA 560 is huge! I have great experience shooting handheld long lenses from my aviation photography where the monopod or tripod with gimbal can offer limited support...

The lens with the TC focuses noticibly closer than the the lens itself (5.6 meters). The bug was in distances varying between 5 and 7 meters. To tell you the truth using the central AF point in Single AF mode and trying to keep the dragonfly in the middle of the frame was not as hard as I thought it would be. The KP offers nice small bursts with high FPS that helped a lot. I got many keepers like this one shooting 1/800 - 1/1000 with the combo shot either wide open @f8 and sometimes - when there was enough light - I was closing it down a bit to f9-10.

A common honey bee (most probably Apis mellifera cecropia for those interested in taxonomy). You can click on image to see it larger on Flickr.

Try to reduce a lot the reds and blues and the greens also a bit and you get a better white balanced picture. A quick retouch made with FastStone Image Viewer and on an old/bad monitor I have in front of me. If you play in PS and on a calibrated minitor you can go back close to the natural colours.

I’m doing a biggining! I agree it’s a pity if those 3 cameras won’t find a home...
