Great results as I can see this is a hard task as the birds are in quite a long distance and the frames full of terrain. I would love to live this experience, owls are my favourite birds. IDK if they follow certain flying patterns maybe pre-focusing at a spot you expect it to fly by might be helpful. I would use the buttons on the DFA 150-450 to gain some time in acquiring focus. Next thing is the K-3iii would certainly help but I leave it out of the discussion as we use what we've got to get what we want is my theory :D

Yes, check all your rubber covers on the left side of your camera (mic, usb etc.). The wind is passing through there. Close them firmly and you’re done.

Thank you for your beautiful aviation photos! With the lockdowns around the world it is very rare sight anymore... :(
Anyway I had the chance to visit an airport here for a large multinational excercise (Iniochos 2021), so I will post some photos when I find the time to download and check them ;)

I really miss it Mike and I also miss the 50-150mm range that made the Bigma a trully all around lens that could deliver in different conditions and types of photography from landscape and macro to super tele work. After all my most popular photo up to this day was taken with the Bigma on my K-5IIs. A wonderful combo! File:Empusa fasciata redpit.jpg - Wikimedia Commons
If you ask me I would love the new Sigma 60-600 in K-mount, as I enjoy walking around in the nature and being able to shoot anything that gets my attention from a bug to a landscape or a bird without carrying a backpack or having to change lenses. Now I mostly use my 150-450 and sometimes the DA560 but they don't give the versality of the Bigma (they have their advantages of course).

As previous users said mine also is tack sharp even wide open @450mm. I had the Bigma 50-500 OS HSM - a really great copy I was happy with-, but the DFA 150-450 is clearly better especially wide open, so I sold my Bigma.

Surely you don’t need SR with so high shutter speeds. It degrades the IQ with no gains. Next thing is the AF settings. I have written all my findings and settings that I’ve found best for aviation photography that mostly apply to your case too. I can tell you 2 things for sure.
1. What you experience is typical of taking a picture while the AF hunts in AF-C mode with priority to shutter release without AF lock.
2. Mind you that the DFA 150-450 is very fast lens. When it locks AF you have to press the shutter release button immediately. If you are delayed then you experience what you describe.

All the images from these series are great. I love the scenery and the theme but mostly the lack of sky in the background (I think I prefer the tighter frames but I enjoy all of them).

I use them when I need to :D
Yes, you program all of them to focus on a given spot. Just aim where you want with the AF lock button on the lens and hold it until it locks focus (you hear the sound if you have it on). Then you use the lens as you wish and when you press any of the 4 buttons the focus distance goes back to the "locked" value. The buttons are around the lens so that regardless of your camera orientation (portrait or landscape) and your personal grip on the lens when you handhold it, or have it on a tripod, there always be a handy button that can be easily pressed to go back to the "locked" distance.
I use it mainly when I'm hiding somewhere and photographing birds. Usually there is a branch or some spots (nests etc) that you like where you sit and there is action around them. Locking them with the preset button is a good way to instantly go back to that spot/distance when you see action while you check around for any other action... Also when shooting airshows I lock either a particular spot over lets say a landing strip, or have the locked distance set to oo in order to easily go back in focus in difficult situations... :)

I find the lens easily handholdable and in fact I ude it that way most of the time. The K-1 SR also works very efficiently with the DFA for still subjects.

Great pictures (the 2nd one too). I like this more because of the light/colours and the droplets on the back of the bird! Is this a hawk out in wild or at some park? It seems you managed to get quite close to it! ;)

Thank you for the info! I'll look up for the RSAF F-15s as like you described are newest versions of the E model which was already exceptional aircraft.

Superb as the previous ones! As you said I also find the bokeh of this zoom lens wonderful in the 90% of the situations! I can't understand people who blame the DFA 150-450 for nervous bokeh... Maybe they forget that "creamy" bokeh from other zooms come at a price of soft, pale and glowing subjects. I think the DFA is another example of Pentax lens excellence.

Great photos! Congratulations. The nice bokeh adds to the subject and the third one is my favourite pose!
