Extending the astrotracer function would need the camera to be on a tracking mount which would kick in while the previous astrotracer data is being read from the buffer. Given the Go-To capabilities of current telescope mounts, this could be possible but this kind of coordination between camera and mount would likely lead to an astronomical (sorry) price point. The camera firmware would also need to do panorama-type star matching if the object is a finished product image. Otherwise, it would be up to the camera operator to merge the frames in post. ---------- Post added 04-23-16 at 11:11 AM ----------
Page 62 of the K-1 manual: "In such cases, you can set [Standby Interval] in [13 Interval Shooting Options] of the C2 menu so that every picture is taken at the set intervals after each exposure ends."
It seems they have seen the light for this function.
