Are we really THAT rare?

I think there will be a reduction in Pentax users here in my part of the woods, Iloilo City, Philippines. A photographer, a good one at that started to dump his lenses to Pentax users here. He chatted with me through FB Messenger if I had a 55-300.mI told him I had an HD copy and that I had it before the PLM version came out. He said that he was selling his and it was in like new condition as it was stored in his dry box. He plans to sell it to another Pentax user he knows. He said he's using a Nikon 200-500. I think he bought a mirrorless Nikon. So I guess, we'll be getting smaller here in Iloilo. Such a sad day. Another Jedi Pentaxian has turned to the dark side.

Nice advertisement. Very moving. If this were a Pentax advertisement, it was definitely pointing to hobbyists and photo enthusiasts. Very well made.

I STRONGLY AGREE. Never compare yourself or your gears with others. Focus on what you like and don't let other people's opinion drive you. I'm sure majority of us here would have very similar reasons why we chose Pentax. When others ask me why Pentax, I simply say I've made my own assessment and it fits my needs. Majority would make a follow up comment and I would just simply say, this is what I like. That ends the interrogation.:lol::lol:

Sorry for the late reply Iron. There are only a few I know who use Pentax in my part of the woods. As far as I can recall, I only know three. Despite being manufactured here, Pentax is not we'll promoted in the Philippines. The authorize distributor in my city doesn't even have that much Pentax items on display. Plus prices of Pentax here are so expensive.

During early morning, the sail boats are parked with their colorful painted sails. People would flock at this time to take pictures of the boats. Of course, this would include their selfies. I think most of them would take videos when the race started.

Went to shoot at the Paraw Regatta sail boat race this morning. I believe I was the only Pentaxian. Several Nikon, Canon, Fuji. I haven't spotted a Sony. I think there was an Olympus. Cellphones, well they dominated the game. Soon all ILC will be rare.:lol::lol:

Yes, Iloilo is in the Philippines. It's in Region VI, Western Visayas. The video you showed is in Luzon in San Juan, Metro Manila. I think that was taken sometime 2014. I wish Pentax would get a good endorser and make a video showing the strength of its weather sealing.

That's what I call a herd of Pentaxians. Unfortunately, there aren't much of us here in my part of the woods.

I still believe Jedi Pentaxians are rare. One thing nice about being rare is it gets to be expensive:):):)

The way it looks, only Pentax will be the brand catering to DSLR. If we look at all our reasons for choosing Pentax, I'd say 95% of our reasons are the same. But we are all aware that the market is shifting to mirrorless. Well maybe we DSLR users are a different breed. But yes, we will be rare and continue to be rare. Anyway, Jedi Pentaxians will always be a rare breed. I don't see the market shifting back to DSLR in the next 5 years. I just hope Pentax will be profitable so that it can continue to support its user base.

Bumped into about 4 or 5 when I went to France 2019. Never met one again since then. I've stopped trying to spot a fellow Jedi Pentaxian in my area. I guess you will just feel the Pentax force when you meet one.

Went out for a shoot for 2 consecutive Saturdays, last week and today. I was the only one with a camera. So maybe we can say they (canikonyfu) are kinda rare during Saturdays and Pentax isn't that rare as a Pentax camera was roaming around the city. :):):)

I don't think we will ever get a cheap DSLR. The K-70 exceeds the features and the quality of all entry level cameras considering that is weather sealed and all. Considering the difficulty in the photogaphy business, I think all companies are struggling for survival. The craze for DSLR has been replaced by cellphones.

People don't buy high end phones just for the camera. The camera is just one of the features they like. High-end phones offer higher memory, better processors and other functions that they are now computers. Basically it's back to an all in one gadget requirement that makes it simple for people.

Agree, a dedicated camera is simply the best tool. That would be us photo enthusiasts who can't live in this world without capturing the moments with our choice cameras.

I guess Pentax will be having difficulty in attracting the younger generation. Everybody now fashions MILC. That's the problem with too much marketing. Companies keep on pushing consumers to upgrade their gears despite the fact that sometimes the upgrade features are not even that much. Unfortunately, what people are getting in to taking pictures are their cellphones. Just my point of view, sooner the demand for all ILC will be lesser and lesser. Only those with the passion for photography will buy ILC.

I would normally go out with a K-5II with sigma 10-20, K-3II with 18-135, 55-300 in case I need a longer lens and the 100 mm macro WR. I hope that's not being overloaded.

I'm just thinking of how Pentax can survive the game. I hope more people will look into Pentax particularly those who'd like to stay with OVF. On the cost accounting side, if there will be more demand for Pentax products prices can be reduced as fixed cost can be allocated to more units produced.

I wish that there will be more of us. More people, more users. More users, more sales. More sales, more profits. Profitability means viability. Viability is more years with Pentax. Just thinking out loud.

We still have 1 brick and mortar chain store that sells Pentax throughout the country. However, there's not much Pentax sales as the market was dominated by Canon and Nikon. I'm not sure about the mirrorless dominance. Maybe Fuji is number 1 here. We're just as rare as we can get
The Pentax Jedi clan.

The first death of independent shops here was during the arrival of big department stores carrying almost everything. Brick and mortar stores survive by carrying some specialty products that department store aren't carrying. Now in the malls, I believe brick and mortar stores will be killed due to low sales and high rent. With this COVID-19 crisis, there are only a few people going into the malls. Plus cellphones are the ones that have taken over point and shoot photographers. These people believe they no longer need cameras. Sad to see photography being moved to such category.

As I've said in other threads, I'm new to Pentax. I just got into the system in 2014. I used to be a Canikon user during the film days. If I chose Nikon after Olympus dropped 4/3, I'm also going to stay with it or whatever brand I chose. Fortunately I chose Pentax and never regretted it. I hope they keep the k-mount alive. I don't see any reason in changing despite being rare. A Pentax Jedi is always rare.

Oh my. If Pentax goes mirrorless, I hope that the K-mount will be used. I don't like to build up a new arsenal of lenses. It's going to be too costly. I also don't want to use an adapter. It's just not me. I want my lenses native to the mount. Secondly, I think I will really have a lot of adjustments to go to EVF. I really don't like it unless they can make the view as natural as the OVF. I don't know if what I'm saying is possible. :(:(:(

Again this is true. However some people think that the camera is suppose to be the major factor in taking pictures. For me, technology will only make things easier for the photographer in taking pictures. Composition, exposure and technique are the major factors in creating a shot and, they are inherent to the photographer.

That's true Clackers. I've been using single AF, AF.C and combined with TAv as suggested by members in this forum. I think you were also one of them. I have more keeper actions shots now than before.
