A K-10D should be a very cheap purchase these days, the difficulty may be in finding one with a low shutter count.
The sensor is wonderful below ISO400 as you are aware and no, it is not a silly idea to acquire one.
I have posted many images in this thread taken by K-10D and some Takumars, Soligors and Vivitars - along with other MF lenses.
Go for it

These look good Stephen.
We had a bushfire of sorts near us yesterday caused by controlled burning by Forestry,
This taken with K-10D and Auto Rikenon 1.7/50

I was taking some close-up pictures yesterday with the K-10D and a manual lens plus extension tube all M42.
Tripod and long exposure - c 8secs
For a while, every alternate shot was fine and every other shot the camera developed a humming vibration.
Selector was on MF. Of course the images were blurry
I am wondering what it was.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Sounds about right.
It is an extremely good camera.
Don't let the 10.2 megapixels worry you.
The reproduction from this camera's sensor is first class.
Remember it is at its best up to ISO 400 - after that it starts to limp a bit.
Use it where it can show its strengths and you will love it as we do.

Thanks for the kind words Gavin.
Here is the wonderful K-10D with another Mamiya.
This time the 4.5/250 seen here: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/attachments/6-pentax-dslr-discussion/2383...-club-mam1.jpg
Edit
I am amazed at the loss of definition when this image - flower below - posted.
It is much better than this. Occasionally this happens to my images when posted on this forum (ie loss of clarity and softening of the image) but it does not happen when the same images are posted on other sites.
Puzzled by that one.

Haha - not the biggest to be sure.
I also have a Mamiya-Sekor 4.5/250 which is a beast by comparison.

Yep ..... the Mamiya RB67 lenses have no focusing helicoid so one has to be inserted in the setup.
Clumsy I know but good fun.

I think that your lens is quite rare Ray.
I would be interested to see some images from it. I expect it will be excellent.

The King Parrots visited again today.
This is the female - not as colourful but what definition from the lovely K-10D.
The lens was an old Soligor 4.5/250 taken wide open.
I will have to move that cuttlefish - it is ruining my pictures. :):):)

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Here is a shot from today.
Taken on Old S1 Vivitar 24-70 and K-10D of course.
The image looks like it has been sharpened but no, it is only the crazed bokeh of this lens.
