Ah. Should have been more precise. I meant odd when compared to later Exaktas.

But at least it doesn't have the little knife to cut myself on.

If you've ever used an Exakta, it's very similar but bulkier.

Though it's odd in a few ways: the shutter progression is unusual [1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/200, 1/300, 1/600, 1/1000, B, Z], and the shutter finishing cocking before the film finishes advancing so you keep winding long after it feels like you should stop. I had to check the manual on that last part, as it felt like I was doing something wrong.

And it's a split-prism version! Was so happy to find it.

Sold off a pile of gear over the weekend, thereby clearing up some shelf space & getting some cash for stuff I wasn't using.

Of course, I sold it at a camera show — so I immediately filled that shelf space back up. Sigh...

The Exakta B is something I've been looking for for a while. Seems to fire fine at all speeds, but I'm expecting that there will likely be a pinhole or two that I hadn't spotted in the shutter. We'll see once I finish the test roll.

A Dial 35 then? I always thought those were interesting looking cameras, but I've never had a chance to try one.

My VX1000 came with the full auto version of the Meyer Primotar 50/3.5, which I assume was just a lens a previous owner threw on the body when they were selling the it off. I can safely say I'd have definitely preferred the Pancolar. The Primotar may not have the bad reputation of the Domiplan, but it's still not a terribly impressive lens.

Lightroom must have decided that the photo needed republishing at some point. Should be good now.

And yes, it's a preset. I'm not sure when Exakta lenses started getting semi-automated apertures; the only lens I've got in that style is by Schacht and dating their output is difficult after they moved to Ulm.

Another show, another camera bought just for the lens.

In this case, it's a late-model Exakta VX500 that was being sold with a 1949–1952 serial Biotar. The body itself is most likely 1971 or 1972 given that the only manufacturer mark is Pentacon's stylized Ernemann Tower logo with no mention of Ihagee. No idea if the lens was added separately by an owner or was originally sold with the camera in an attempt to clear out old stock when Pentacon wound up the line.

Shutter is somewhat questionable. When I purchased it, it refused to close the second curtain after firing but after a bit of exercising now appears to work fine. I'm going to run a short test roll through & see whether that stays the case.

Paired with my VX1000 & other Biotar just because.

I believe the internal thread was 44mm on the older Mirandas. But not 100% certain.

All I really remember from when I was looking at Mirandas was the wide range of lens adapters available due to the width of the mount & the relatively shallow flange distance. Including an Exakta adapter that positioned the lens upside down so that the Exkata's left hand aperture release would hit the Miranda's right hand shutter button.

Yep. Same camera as the ZX-5N.

According to the database there was one more camera with a shutter speed dial: the MZ-3. Though it's also listed as "available only in select markets", so I suspect it's not that common.

Went to an outdoor camera show yesterday; my first show in a while.

Picked up a Topcon D-1 with non-working meter. Definitely don't like it as much as the R-III I already own, but I was buying it more for the lenses it came with. OK, mostly just for one lens: this beautiful 35/2.8.

And then, as an impulse purchase, I picked up the other body for a few bucks so I could use my AF lenses on film.

Beautiful looking camera.

Does your WLF have the little extra leg to it that locks the shutter button when it's closed?

Yeah. That was the reason for my question, as I've never seen a used Contax SLR with leatherette that didn't look like someone had taken sandpaper to it.

Very nice! Was the leatherette replaced as well, or was it still in that good of condition?

Not just the R3Ms! As a vintage Contax shooter, I've always had my eye on the R2C. They also used to also be about $600-700 a couple years ago. Now it seems like they'll cost you at least $1500.

The A3/A3000 has always reminded me appearance-wise of the Canon T50, another early 80s chunky, square SLR.

The answer, as with anything FSU, is "it varies". Mine worked well for a few years and then the shutter stopped firing.

(And, since they're so cheap, they're not really worth trying to get fixed if something does happen.)

I used to own a Chaika-II. Nice compact body but graced with one of the most irritating aperture rings that I've ever experienced.

I eventually stopped putting full 36 frame rolls into it for the exact reason you mentioned.

The Pentina line of cameras are SLRs, though they really don't look like they are. (I had assumed they were viewfinder cameras for the longest time until I finally handled one.)

KW definitely didn't. Except for a brief period with a viewfinder camera in the '50s, every camera they introduced from 1933 onward was an SLR. They were very dedicated to it as a camera type.

(And you could probably argue about the viewfinder camera. Though KW were the ones who ultimately produced it after the East German government merged VEB Zeiss-Ikon into them, it was the latter company that had designed it.)

The viewfinder on an M3 has an angle of view corresponding approximately to a 50mm lens. The goggles (aka spectacles and probably a few other nicknames) change the angle of view for the viewfinder/rangefinder, allowing you to use the associated lens without the need for a separate auxiliary viewfinder.
