My latest gear -- DON'T TELL THE WIFE !! A Great Camera Club /FLICKR Mate MICK ( who has to take MORE TABLETS than ME ! ) bought a NIKON F5 outfit NEW in about 2004 as he was going to be a 'Second Photographer' for a Mate who did the Dreaded WEDDINGS -- then that all fell through and he never USED the film camera any more -- so he LOANED it to me a few times -- all the batteries has expired Dates on them never used ! Anyway he said he wanted to SELL IT so I had a look a Going Prices and was amazed how CHEEEEP they were compared with over £ 2,000 Body Only when new. So I offered £400 for the lot and he accepted so I had to Smuggle it into my Darkroom Past The Wife as I have been FORBIDDEN to SPEND MONEY on Camera gear at My Age as we need it to for the Gas and Electric Bills -- BUT that is what is keeping m e ALIVE after 6 Cancers and Type 2 Diabetes -- messing about with my Old cameras and Old Film and mu Chemicals -- I got Camera Body MINT + AF Nikkor 28-105m f3.5-4.5 D + Cosina 19-35mm lens + SB- 27 and SB-800 Speedlights + Sekonic meter + Polarsing filter + original Box and Manual . I have used it with an Old 50mm f2 Nikkor-H off my Gift FM and am still getting round the Speedlights

I got my first ASAHI PENTAX in 1961 -- an S3 then when I was starting out snapping for local newspapers I got sent to do Soccer at Billericay Town Football club and there were 'Two Old Traditional Snappers' using ROLLEIFLEXES ! I was the Young Upstart with a 35mm camera ! I managed to get a 105mm f2.8 Takumar Pre-set for £27 in London - the ONLY Asahi Pentax Lens in the Whole Window! Then later I got a 105mm f2.9 Super Takumar and 200m f4 SMC Takumar which I thought was the Bees -Knees for Sport Photography ! But that 200mm is TROUBLE now -- all the lubrication has gone hard around the Focus Sleeve - I PAID a service but it has come back . The Standard Lens is the 55mm f1.8 ' Auto-Takumar' NOT as SHARP as a later SMC 50mm f1.4 I got with Spotmatic -F I left out the Lens Hood from the Photo

I was given a 1965 bought Asahi Pentax S1a with 55mm f2 Super-Takumar by a widow Lady who also gave me the Deceased Husband's Nikon F75 outfit. There was also a yellow-green filter with the S1a and I took some B&W tests which I have shown on this Site in 'Show Your B&W Photos' The LENS is a 'GOOD ONE' SHARP at full aperture. I did buy a Black Paint Spotmatic years ago in the 1960's and that Super- Takumar was a 'real DOG' of a lens ! When I was a Photographer at University College London from 1961-1970 the Boss let me buy an S1a but it had the 'Auto-Takumar f2.2 ' lens and also a 50mm f4 Macro-Takumar and Copying Stand and I did LOADS of work with that for Lectures and Students.

I have a Great Camera Club / Flickr friend who buys gear at Car Boot Sales and sometimes GIVES me cameras he has bought ! I gave me a COSINA CSM M42 screw mount and i have taken some test shots with it and tried PENTAX M42 lenses with it. I had to renew the foam seal along the film track and door. It has a strange 'Double-Action' stop-down and as you press shutter release it stops lens down and LED's come on at top and you turn Aperture until you get a GREEN LED then exposure is supposed to be balanced.

My Camera Club Mate Richard gets up very early and goes to car Boot Sales an d gets 'Bargain' Cameras then loans them to ME to try lout with film ! He had a nice COSINA CSM M42 Pentax Mount one and I renewed the light seal foam strips and then he said I could KEEP IT -- so I can use all my Pentax M42 lenses with it ! KI did a VIDEO all about my findings with it which you can see here :

A Camera Club member gave my his 60 year old [B]Voigtlander Vito B[B] with ER case, Hood , 'Bewi' meter. I have never had one of those. However, on loading with a 'Test Film' I found there was a 'Premature Shutter Release Fault. where the shutter would fire at end of wind-on action NOT with proper release. I cleaned all the leather with 'Neatsfoot Oil' and strap was very dry. Now after many posts on 'forums' a kind Yank on Photrio Forum suggested it may be the cable release plunger 'stuck' down, so i investigated and fitted a cable release and shutter fired, then when I wound on shutter did NOT fire until I pressed proper button -- just tested it with flash also. Outdoors shutter fired prematurely once but then correctly -- hope problem in solved .

I have been given another Spotmatic F + SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4 and a Super Takumar 105mm f2.8 a Mamiya Sekor SX 35mm f2.8 and a weird ' Universar Ultra Multicoated 135mm f2.8 Same kind Gent also gave me a second OM-10 + Zuiko Lenses The SP F light seals are just about OK BUT on preliminary Tests the 1/1000th is running 'fast' as negs were very under-exposed and also un-even across the frame -- what a Bummer ! Slow speeds seem OK and delayed Acton works. I took off base-plate and carefully lubricated the cogs and levers with a minute amount of sewing machine oil -- now it winds on 'Sweetly' and mirror no longer sticks up. FIRST SP F Serial Number : 4847355 and LENS 5572937. SECOND SP F : 4878965 and LENS 7287947 and THIS sample does not have the Radio-Active 'Yellowing' that my first one did until I left it out in Sunlight couple of years ago.

I met an 89 year old Gent and his Wife while out with one of my 'Classic cameras' and he said " do you like Old Cameras ? I have some you can have if you are interested" -- so i gave my Contact Details --- Did not hear anything until a YEAR LATER when he phoned so I rushed there to see many camera bags laid out for me all dusty ! I had a look -- inside one were several Olympus -- XA, PEN EE, etc and at bottom a dirty brown case which housed a Minolta Autocord !
I always wanted one -- this one was 1956 era with an Optiper MXS Shutter, 75mm f3.5 Chiyoko-Rokkor lens and it was filthy ! Anyway -- I got all the gear home, including a 'Mint' Olympus E-500 4/3rds Digital 5mp with 2 lenses, and took off viewfinder of Autocord and cleaned out years of Sahara Desert Sand from mirror box and cleaned mirror with lens fluid and tissues and body with Cotton Buds ( 'Q-Tips' in American I believe) . It all worked still although slow speeds were a bit 'sticky' . The RESULTS are GREAT -- just as sharp as Hasselblad or Rolleiflex ! I did a VIDEO about it too -- you can see it here :

a Camera Club member gave me this Chinon TTL marked 'Prinzflex' as sold by the photo chain 'Dixons' in UK -- it takes M42 lenses. It needed a good clean up -- new foam seals, lubricated lens mount as it was so stiff at first, lubricated cogs and levers in Base-Plate-- now it winds on 'Sweetly' and the 1.4 lens is SHARP too ! I took some test shots with several M42 lenses.

I was given a Pentax SF-7 body just for postage cost -- it works well -- even came with a good battery -- I have tried it our with several lenses and posted some samples in the 'F Club' section. It has NO 3mm co-axial flash socket which is a pain.also NO exposure compensation. I had to stick some paper over the 'DX' cassette contacts so it defaulted to 100ASA when I tried a test old 200 ASA film.

the Chairman of my Camera Club was given some gear a long time ago and he kept it in a plastic bag then decided he didn't want it so offered it to me as the 'Club's Outdated Film and Old Unwanted FILM Gear Specialist' and this is what I got, complete with w Dead Fly in the bottom of the bag ---

An e-mail message was sent around my Club -- a Gent had some gear from his deceased Dad and listed it -- I was the first one to reply -- probably the ONLY one as it was all 'Old Film Gear' ---- well I met him and he produced a very dusty plastic box -- inside was all filthy but a 1982 vintage CONTAX RTS II Quartz, Yashica FR1 with lenses in dirty cases, winders, huge Contax 'real Time 540 flash' lots of cables, a Tamron 70-210 Zoom with both M42 and C/Y mounts etc -- I cleaned up cameras and lens surfaces and luckily NO FUNGUS and cases i wiped with Neatsfoot Oil -- I finally got the huge flash to work with 12 AA Batteries -- when I turned it on and pressed the 'test' button there was a huge 'CRACK' as it discharged -- probably for the first time in over 20 years !! Both cameras had a 'bang' -- Contax on corner near frame counter so it does not 'zero' any more and Yashica on pentaprism so frame counter stays at 'Start' but lenses are sharp at full aperture and the winders work -- I just need better MUSCLES to carry it all especially the Contax with flash !

I have been given a 1982 Contax RTS II Quartz and a Yashica FR1 set from a gent who contacted the Chairman of my Club and I was the first to reply -- there were several winders, 2 Contax flashes (the small one went bang ! ) leaving me with the huge hammer-head 540 ( not got it working yet) - all in a very dusty plastic box. I had to wipe everything down, all the Yashica lens cases I put on some Neatsfoot Oil, cleaned lenses with brush and microfibre cloth ( NO FUNGUS !) . Both cameras had been 'banged' -- Contax on a corner so the frame counter sticks on a number , Yashica on pentaprism and frame counter sticks on 'S' ( so I don't know how many frames I have taken) --- on use, both mirror bumper foams crumbled so I replaced them. I have done some tests -- the Contax 50mm f1.4 Planar is NO SHARPER than the 50mm f1.4 SMC Takumar on my 1970's Spotmatic F.

Thought I would show two methods of 'Off Camera Flash' I use -- the camera is my 1974 ASAHI PENTAX SPOTMATIC F which has a 'hot shoe' and the flash is the infamous VIVITAR 283 -- my one is the 'Made in Japan' version so it probably has the 'high trigger voltage' which could damage modern 'digital' cameras -- NO WORRIES with 'old PENTAXES !! ' THIS one shows the Vivitar with the 'extension cable. -- the sensor is removable and put onto the hot shoe attachment so it faces the subject and measures the reflected light -- I hold flash to the side and above the camera.
Off-Camera-01 by pentaxpete, on Flickr
THIS one shows my 'Wireless Trigger; set-up the YONGNUO CTR-301P -- the 'trigger' sits on the Hot Shoe and the 'receiver' is on base of flash so flash can be much further away than the length of the extension cable -- don't forget to set the correct maximum flash synch speed which on this camera is 1/60th second.

Thought I would show you my 'Braun Hobby' unit from the late 1950's-'60's that I use to take many of my ;Indoor Photos' . They came out in the 1950's and were used by all the newspaper photographers -- when you see the Beatles coming down the steps of the Aircraft in USA there are all the news snappers with their ROLLEIS and the black Braun Hobby units with the strap over their shoulders ! My FIRST Braun was bought in the Canadian Maple Leaf Store in Iserlohn, Germany in 1957 when I was there in the British Military Hospital as a Path Lab Technician-- it cost £ 14-00 when in England with all the taxes it cost £ 39-00 ! It had 'lead-acid ' wet-cell accumulators and could also be run off the mains .. I wore out the cells then they were all discontinued BUT I could still run it off the mains indoors. Then many years later I got a second flash head , then I was GIVEN some more Braun units and saved some from being DUMPED by a Photographer I was visiting. There are differences in all the power packs I have when they are opened up -- small improvements by the Germans. The flash duration is 1/1000th second and when more than one head is plugged in of course the power is shared.

Here is my K10D shown with an M42 35mm f2 Super-Takumar I picked up years ago with a 1960's SV and 150mm f4 Super-takumar and extension tubes all for £ 25-00 !! I use it with the Screw-Bayonet Adapter I got in 1980 when I bought my 'K' fit Pentaxes . it is very sharp even at full aperture unlike a later version I bought in the 1980's with the 49mm filter mount which was a real DOG of a lens -- needed stopping down to at least f11 to get sharp coverage. ( I sold that lens cheaply !)

Sanderson 1 by pentaxpete, on Flickr
A wooden Sanderson Quarter Plate camera I got about 1966 for £24. It has the plate holders and I have used it with a 'Rada' rollfilm back. It has a 5inch f6.8 Cooke-Luxor Anastigmat lens in a 'General' shutter, speeded 1/5th-1/100th second + B and T. It has 'double extension' for macro work, cross and rising front, and swing front. It is 'British Ensign'made. Now I have discovered the shutter is jammed open so it will be difficult to use it.

Two 'BIG LENSES' ---
My Russian MTO 500mm Mirror lens on a Zenith 'E' -- I bought it for £69-00 in the 1960's -- I used it for Cricket photos for a local newspaper -- it came in the wooden box with various filters and a Russian 39mm 'Leica Screw' and also a 42mm ' Pentax Screw' adapter .

My TOKINA 300mm f2.8 on a Canon FTBn body as Tokina did not make it with PENTAX fit -- I used it for Soccer action especially on dull winter days but all that work has GONE now so do not use it so much.
