Not my experience either. Sounds like a specific lens issue.... needs to go to a repair facility I'd guess.
I recently spent some time with a friend and used his 150-500 sigma.... the sigma was ok... but DFA a leap better....

Thankyou..... however I had special circumstances this trip...... 10 days by myself with no agenda.... so once located.... I went back each day for a few hours and was able to spend some time getting in the best position for some photos.... maybe spent 10 or so hours in total with the wrens....I just love being in that country relaxing and enjoying nature.... the family group was just entertaining to watch.... also interesting seeing how close one could get.... I did notice it seemed easier wearing one particlular jacket then another I had.... also took up to an hour to locate them each day as they moved around a bit.

Thanks Redpit.... very flexible lens..... generally I just use the K1 on it as I like not only it's reach but also like using it at it's wider end... so K1 over KP for me mostly as a walk around camera.

A Rakali (native "water rat")
DFA 150-450 on KP
I normally don't use the KP on this lens.... but sometimes reach beats all.
And a tail waterfall farewell |

99.99% of my shots are hand held.... I'll not think twice about a half day walk through the bush with it on a sling strap etc.... hung off the camera or the lens foot.... I'm almost 60.... landscapes or bees... walking for 4 hours with a tripod.... no thanks!
Generally, I'll only use a tripod where I might be waiting for something to happen in a particular spot.... like focussed on a well lit flower and waiting for a bird to feed on it.... could take an hour or so.
2MP crop from a K1.... 1/18 of the sensor. Busy Bee at the Goolwa Community Garden by Noel Leahy, on Flickr
Generally.... when just bushwalking I take a small 20mm and a 43 and find that I don't look for other lenses.... I use a Voightlander color scopar 20mm.... both fit in a pocket.... I twist the camera off the 150-450 leaving it dangle on the sling then shoot with the 20/43.

Getting a silver eye or two
Getting seriously ignored (just like back in my disco days)
Just Herroning around

Shhh.... we’ll be swamped with tourists! Anyway.... must be the deadly spiders that ate half that snake. I hear the Funnel Webs are quite active at the moment.

This is why Australia has kangaroos (so the tourists know what they looking at)
PS: and we have snakes to keep tourism numbers manageable.

Just get it.... you know you are going to........ can use your 70-200 in one hand and and it in the other to do some bicep curls and save on dumb bells..... (you did mention you were going to get some dumbbells in the DFA 70-200 club...... not that I'm stalking you or anything!)
