Here are a few from a recent trip to Cuba. this marvelous lens was attached to my camera most of the time, and the reach, AF and WR were perfect.

To "smear" the water as you say. I personally prefer the suggested movement of long exposures for water.

Put a ND filter on that one and it becomes an instant classic!

Thanks!
Chasing kids will be one of the lens's strengths, because of the very fast AF. It,s fine for a portrait lens. People often think "ultra wide aperture" when thinking about portrait, but in honestly, my go-to settings in the studio are 1/180, f5.6, except if I want to capture only one eye in focus (try that with kids...)

Here is how it performs in the studio (spoiler, it's a great all-around lens. Maybe not as much character as a limited, but it performs extremely well). |

With all the love I got for the 16-85, it's time I shared a few pics here:

A comparison of 16 vs 85mm to show the range (not technically the best)
16mm
I find that for me, the main perk (apart from the excellent IQ, plus DC and WR) is the 16mm wide angle. I come from the 17-70, and that single mm at the wide end has made a world of difference.
The longer 85mm also means that I swap lenses much less often. My 60-250 has been the looser in this exchange, since now I feel the need to mount it less often.
My only gripe so far with the 16-85 is that at 16mm, the built-in flash casts a shadow. I'll have to learn not to rely on it, or to always mount my external flash.
